a mixed review from my end. My first time with the CarMax model and I like the low stress that it entails. My dealer fell down on a few fronts though.. - Sales guy who I initially worked with made the final appointment with me in order to buy and pick up the car and he no-showed, something about it being his day off, suspect he got canned. - To their credit the Manager scrambled and I worked with someone else who was very competent, However.. when we picked up the car service engine error code was asserted (perhaps more points needed on the 125 pt inspection) - The good news is that after 2 visits to the CarMax repair facility issue got sorted out, covered under the 30 day warranty - So, the good is the low stress buying experience along with the 10 day return and the 30 day warranty. The bad.. lack of attention to detail which matters, of course for this type of large purchase

A lot of confusion with the finance manager and the car

A lot of confusion with the finance manager and the car salesperson, the finance manager introduced new stipulation docs near the end of the deal the salesperson had never seen related to verifying cell phone, delayed the purchase. I clarified maybe 3x what I needed but new items were introduced. Successfully purchased vehicle but spent 4+ hours

Minus one point for the over four hours it took to

Minus one point for the over four hours it took to purchase with a cash deal, multiple mistakes with the paperwork that had to be corrected including the misspelling of my name which I caught. Think of the nightmare with the DMV to get it corrected.. Minus one point for only one car key, dealer wants $577 for a new one. Minus one point for the car being out of alignment and with the way the tires were worn this should have been picked up during the inspection and either fixed or disclosed to the customer. However I do love the car.

What a great experience - again.

What a great experience - again. This is my third CarMax purchase, first at the Oceanside location. Larry was delightful, knowledgeable, kind, and very helpful. Besides the professionalism, he was just great to work with. The process was smooth and easy - thank you!

Terrible terrible experience.

Terrible terrible experience. Wonderful and friendly and helpful in the front office, but TERRIBLE in car preparation and fault discovery! Every car dealer washes the engine compartment, so the terrible oil leak I discovered a couple of days after purchase was not evident when I bought it. That said, the CarMax process for a car they purchase MUST have noticed the oil all over the outside of the engine and instead of addressing it they washed it all off so it would look good. They didn't even check the oil level with the dipstick!!! Four days after my purchase I got a low oil warning. Even after adding a QUART the oil level only rose to HALF the required range! You sold me a car down OVER A QUART OF OIL. So much for your quality inspection :-(. And just to put a cherry on top of that, the second key had a DEAD BATTERY in it. So you never even tried that key to make sure it was working! I am SO disappointed with CarMax now. I suspect this isn't just the Oceanside store that's falling WAY short of the quality you advertise so constantly. This is the fourth car I've purchased from CarMax and I guarantee it is the LAST. I used to recommend CarMax to friends but from now on I will adamantly recommend AGAINST it.

Better experience than I was expecting.

Better experience than I was expecting. Larry helped me through the paperwork with patience, clarity and humor. He even entertained me with card tricks and drawing as the car was getting cleaned and ready to go. Very pleasant time here. The whole staff was great.
