Not a long term vehicle
Bought this new about 18 months and 20,000 miles ago. I’ll start off with a few of the good points. Interior is spacious and quite comfortable for long drives. The redesign they did really works inside and out I feel it’s not only functional but also stylish compared to the last Gen. While it’s only a base model it came with quite a bit of tech. LED headlights, digital cluster, ACC, heated cloth seats, blind spot, forward collision assist and auto dimming rear view mirror it’s all quite nice to have and they never had any faults. This car will average 29mpg on the interstate between 70-80mph and get 400 miles per tank doing it. There’s enough room for 4 adults to fit comfortably or three kids in car seats in the back. Now, for a few of the issues I’ve come across while owning this is a bit disappointing coming from a life long VW owner. To start off I maintain all my vehicles the same (1st oil change at 1,000 miles and every 3,000 after the break in period) but this is the first car I’ve had that burns oil. It may not be a lot but it’s noticeable (2/3 quart/1,000 miles) and it will alert you. I got an alert on my dashboard to shut the car off due to low oil level and it was a quart low after checking it. I let the dealer know upon my next service and VW doesn’t care to look further into it as it’s a non-issue. While I find that to be a bit of an annoyance because I have a better maintenance schedule than most people and it’s still going to have the same issue regardless. Start ups have been very loud after 5,000 miles and goes away when warmed up but it’s definitely lifter noise. The dealer said that’s normal (It’s not). All this gives me is very little confidence as I can see the writing on the wall. This car will need a motor prematurely and leave me in the side of the road one day. The performance and capability hasn’t been impressive in the slightest. VW could really give this another 30-50hp it desperately needs but they don’t care to. The AWD has been subpar in mud and slightly better for the snow but I wouldn’t go too far off the beaten path.

Do not buy these cars.
Terrible engines. Mine is using a quart of oil every 800 miles and I was a fanatic during breakin. Also underpowered. Bad software, freezes up need to unplug and replug the phone constantly.

The Tiglet - SEL R-Line
I must be an exception. I have had no issues with my Tiguan at all after a year and a half of ownership. Bought in October, 2021. I do notice the hesitation on start up but it’s not an issue. I had an Audi allroad and was considering the Q5 but, you get pretty much all the same features with the Tiguan that the price difference just wasn’t justified for me. Plenty of get up and space when you need it. I’m a life long VAG customer so the quirks don’t deter me. I’ve had a great experience and would recommend the Tiguan.

Car sucks
I have had this car for 1year,have gone to Volkswagen dealership due to losing oil after a few months, the gentleman at the dealership said that it's normal to lose some oil when breaking in the car I excepted that even though I didn't believe it. Now it's April 12th 2023 2 weeks past 1year of ownership and approximately 2,000 miles since my first 10,000 mile oil change and this time there's no oil the check oil light is on.This car was purchased brand new.

Love my Tiguan SEL R-Line
2022 SEL R-Line I see the other negative reviews which is unfortunate but I have not had one issue with my 2022 Tiguan. I purchased in October 2021 and have enjoyed the car since purchase. Well appointed with all amenities that come with the Audi Q5 which I was also considering. I went with the Tiguan because all you’re getting with the Q5 is the clout. Long distance driving is amazing as the car basically drives itself. Perhaps I got lucky but I’ve not experienced anything negative so far. Would highly recommend.

Not a safe SUV to drive
The 2022 Tiguan has numerous electrical problems and the dealer ignores your complaints. First all three Tiguans I drove were in sport mode and fully warmed up before I was able to drive it. This is a cover-up for the hesitation when you first start out. When I went to pick the SUV up again it was in sport mode and fully warmed up. I didn't notice the hesitation till I went to drive it two days later. If you try to merge into traffic when it's just warm the SUV bucks and has dead spots with acceleration and then lurches forward at a fast pace. This brings me to problem two. The autonomous braking doesn't work either. In fact it doesn't even come on to warn you. While the SUV was leaching forward and making sure I was not going to get broadsided I came externally close to the semi-truck in front of me. Problem three the side impact warning doesn't work either because there are no side cameras as they claim because of the chip shortage. I took the SUV to the dealer with 100 miles on it an was told everything works just fine even though it had the ZERO additional miles on it. Same mileage in same mileage out and still in the same spot I parked it in the day before. I brought it back the following week for the same problems. Again I was told there was nothing wrong with the system. I asked the service manager to take a ride so I can show him. He afforded me ten minutes How magnanimous of him. The only thing he did was telling me it was how I was driving. He then suggested I drive in sport mode. We went out on the street and I showed him the autonyms braking system doesn't work either. Again more excuses like the truck in front of me was still moving, When you step on the brake it turns the system off and I wasn't driving fast enough up to the truck. I told him I wasn't going to crash my new SUV just to prove the system doesn't work. I then asked him if he actually knows how the system is suppose to work. He told me he wasn't going to risk his life to make a point. UMMMM you told me and signed off on the paperwork saying everything is working perfectly. To make a long story just a little shorter all the safety features they show you in the TV and magazine ads DON'T WORK. Don't bother calling customer support because they will only tell you to bring it back to the dealer. I wrote all of this and then some to VW Corporation by registered mail and I am still waiting for a response.

Do not buy any new Volkswagen models
Very disappointed. The car has big time faulty issues. At least mine. The radio display, which means the rear backing camera does not work. The dealership said that the radio display need to be changed, except there are no components in stock and they said to expect a huge delay. This is one major violation of safety. Second, the audio sensor that lets you know if someone is behind you stopped working, and so there are no audio warning. Seems that the blind spot light on the right side is not always functional. I bought this vehicle with 600 miles on board from the dealership DeMontrond in Conroe Texas, and seem that they are unable to solve any of these problems. The car has now 1600 miles on board and is a total rack. Would like people to know to avoid new models from Volkswagen.

An economical SUV
2022 Tiguan SE is a great car for so many reasons. It’s very stable in a Highway driving, less than 2000 engine RPM at the speed of 70 mph, great safety features, very spacious interior with great legroom for all except the 3rd row, great air condition cooling, MPG easily 34 in highway and 26 city, easy to get in and out, you have a clear view while driving at all direction. standard LED headlights, rain sensing wipers, and adaptive cruise control are all a plus. There are things I don’t like in a Tiguan but they are not a deal breaker, such as the engine is under power it’s not not bad but it could be better, no phone end call button on the steering wheel, the driver arm rests on the middle console and the door are both little low, the gray interior color only comes with dark blue and black exterior, on the 2 wheel model unfortunately you still have the tunnel on the 2nd row floor, during hot Summer the shade that covers the panoramic roof is very thin so you will feel the heat on top of your head during heavy traffic ( that’s why I traded my 2021 SE Tiguan for 2022 SE Tiguan without panoramic roof. I definitely recommend this car.
