Jaguar X-Type

I purchased a 2003 Jaguar X-Type with 37,000 original miles in September 2010. I did have one incident with the car two weeks after I had purchased it. It would turn over, start, idle nice and then stall out as I put it in reverse. Eventually it would quit starting all together. The big problem is that I live in rural PA and the nearest Jag dealer was 120 miles away. I had to have the car towed to Pittsburgh only to find that a corroded wire caused the issue. Of course that was $800 later. However now after getting the wire fixed, I love the car. I was looking for an AWD vehicle, with a little bit of class and I am very pleased with the car. We have had some snow the last couple of days the car does not slip a wheel. Very pleased so far. The interior id very nice, the car is very stiff and sporty and handles nicely.

Best value for your money!

I bought my x-type about 3 months ago so I guess I can't say much about the reliability yet. The interior and exterior are the nicest I've ever owned and the car was the cheapest I've ever owned... I got it with 39k for $8,800 which was a steal. The 3.0 liter engine supposedly has much more power, but I have the 2.5. It drives very smooth but when you accelerate quickly then decelerate quickly the transmission kind of stutters. Other than that the car is perfect! There is wood everywhere, and the steering wheel emblem is beautiful. When you turn the lights on, the little jaguar marque in the dash lights up which is pretty cool too. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a luxury car at a low price.

My ultimate dream car!

Nice handling car, a bit under powered with the 2.5, great looking interior and comfortable. It's annoying that it only has one cup holder. Gas mileage could be a bit better(19/24) on premium. Not many problems with 63K on it, just minor stuff that was covered by warranty. Love the body style in the zircon metallic with the cream interior. The sun roof is the best with hardly any wind noise.

jag xtype

About the only complaint I have with this car is that there is only one cup holder in the front. It's fun to drive, looks great and does good on gas mileage. Cost was reasonable and it has been very reliable. I have over 135,000 miles so far and have had to replace a radiator hose.

Jaguar 2.5 2003

I bought the car used when i was 16 with 70,000 miles on it. I think the car is extremely underpowered leading too high rpm take offs and thus harsh ware on the transmission. I would recommend the 3.0 to anyone. it has a great takeoff, and handling. The car is stylish and comfortable.

be carefull of 2.5

This is a great auto. The faster you go the better it handles. By far the best buy in a sports car for your dollar compared to BMW and Audi. Be very carefull of the 2.5. The trans will go on all of them and this is right from the Jag dealer. When I bought mine I did not listen to the mechanic and bought the 2.5 instead of the 3.0 because the price was better. What a mistake,a bearing in the transfer case went at 40,000 miles. Lucky for me it was on warranty. It took 4 weeks to get another in as there were so many being changed that they were on back order. The way to go is with the 3.0 with the sport package. This is hard to find as they are such good cars that no one wants to get rid of them. Best chance is to ask the dealer if one is coming off a lease and for them to let you know when it arrives. You won't be sorry. My wife was driving ours in Canada and she was doing 100 and I told her she better watch there are no cops around or she would be thrown in jail. She forgot the speedo was in miles not km. Runs all right on low blend but sure purrs on the high grade gas, that is the only down fall at 1.00 per litre.

I love this car

I bought my used X-type 3.0 with a 5 speed manual 8 months ago. The car had 102,000kms and was pampered by the original owner. I have put 18,000kms with few issues and three oil changes(dealer purchased Jag filters and Synthetic oil, as recommended by my mechanic). This is a beautiful car and there are many aftermarket upgrades available(I have installed a mesh grille and colour coded centre caps for the wheels). I have experienced a few electrical gremlins, but they were one-offs as they have not returned. Driving in our Canadian winter was a breeze with the AWD. It is a real head turner in carnival red and tan leather. These are great cars, but you have to do your homework not to get stuck with a lemon as I have read in other reviews. The 5 speed manual is the only way to go on a performance/sports car.

Suits Me Fine!

I bought the car with 40,000 miles on it. I have had no problems at all with this car and it now has 57.000 miles. Beside regular maintainance the only thing I've had to do is replace the battery and tires. Living in Michigan, I bought this car because it has all-wheel drive. This is the only aspect of this car that has not lived up to my expectations. While driving in snow, the car takes-off good, but it doesn't stop well. When cornering it seems to slide sideways very easily. I have even tried to remedy this by putting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on it ($200+/ea) to not much avail. I probably drive slower in winter because of this, so that is not necessarily a bad thing. But it can be a white knuckle ride!

Very Nice Vehicle

The Jaguar X-type 2.5 has been a fun, reliable car to drive for four years. There have been mechanical difficulties such as a section of the side mirror falling off, the interior rubber trim of the driver and passenger door falling off, molding of the battery terminals, and other things. These have been only minor difficulties. The rest of the car is phenominal. Engine power is plentiful, it handles excellently, and the interior is gorgeous! This car beats driving a minivan!
