The kind of reliable car you never want to sell
That Mazda CX9 was awesome. Pretty strong as it sat on a truck chassis, but you would never have thought it. Every one of the 155,000 miles was good, and with basic maintenance and limited refurb cost, I couldn't have asked for better from a SUV

Excellent Crossover Vehicle
The CX9 is a "peppy" car. It can really get up and go when you really want it to. I test drove several crossover's before deciding on the CX9. My decision being based on the following - The third row seat is actually fairly comfortable for an adult (although, if you are over 200 lbs or taller than 6 feet, I don't know if would advise it for more than very quick trips). I was surprised to find that I could sit in the third row for an hour and be fine. That was important to me as I didn't want it to only fit children. The second reason is the pep. After test driving several in its class, I narrowed it down to three - CX9, Sorento, and Traverse. Only the Sorento in the V6 had similar pep. The Traverse had the most room but it didn't handle quite as well as the Sorento or CX9, and it took longer to get going. The overall finishes in the Sorento seemed a bit cheaper than the CX9 or Traverse. The Sorento's third row seat was also very tight, only comfortable for a child or small adult. I also test drove several crossovers that didn't have a third row seat. I found the Toyota Venza to be the most comfortable overall but of course, no third row seat, and there is that "pep" comparison again. In the end, it was an easy choice. I have now owned the CX9 for 6 years. I purchased a loaded model, red with tan leather interior. It was used, just a year old and less than 10k miles. I saved $10,000 buying it gently-used. I added a full extended warranty for up to 90k miles and never used it.

Most reliable car I ever owned that I got a 2017
I was devoted to a certain Brand. Well after having owned 4 and same issues and was becoming disillusioned and financially burdensome. I was skeptical of imports but made the leap against everyone's opinion. The best SUV I ever owned and longest I ever had one vehicle. I never had a problem except routine maintenance. Purchased in 2011 and loved everything about it. First SUV that never failed me. Nice design and pleased with my options at the time. Roomy and exceeded my expectations. Well I bought a new one and even happier. My advice, don't be a skeptic and don't be a slave to a Brand.

After owning a Corolla, I Love my Cx9!
I love my cx9, with 2 car seats and frequent traveling, the space available is perfect for us! It's so nice being able to see everything, and the backup camera is very helpful.

Handles Well!
Bought in 2011 CX9 GT AWD and still love it! Though I want the 2016 or 2017 CX9 signature, my 2011 is still LIKE NEW at 104K miles..yes I've Zoom-Zoomed a lot in my Black Beauty! Its been Dependable, Handles Great, and Kid-friendly for rode trips! In search of buying my daughter her first car, I test drove many cars in May 2017 deciding if I wanted to pass down my CX9...only thing that came close to making me want buy another vehicle for self was the CX9 and MDX! ....I ended up just buying daughter a 2016.5 CX5 AWD GT so she would have something smaller and I could still enjoy!

Great Family Car!
This car has so much room in it! There is third row seating with lots of leg room. I love that the AC is controlled in the front and back separately.

5k of repair work needed 4 months after buying
My 2016 Subaru Outback was wrecked in an accident and I quickly needed to find a replacement. I live in Flagstaff, AZ and have needs for a multipassenger vehicle, AWD, with good gas mileage and decent amenities. What I got was an overly bulky soccermom type SUV with worse gas mileage than my 2010 F250. This vehicle looks nice and has good interior amenities and quality but it's bulky. It rides worse than a pickup with offroading tires. Sway and overly sensitive steering are my major complaints. I do a lot of highway driving and for a V6 engine I really don't have much power. I feel every bump and the slightest touch of the steering wheel at 75mph and I'm switching lanes. This car also only has 80k miles on it and was owned by one owner prior to me. I've had to pour 5k of repair work into it so far. Major transmission issues, gasket and oil leaks, brake problems, factory recall on suspension, power window and door lock failures, etc... This is also the only AWD vehicle I've ever gotten stuck in the snow. My outback could get out of anything, and my fords almost anything. I think this car is just too underpowered and heavy for anything other then a family car used to drive to church on sundays only.

Poor transmission
Ifor it weren't for the chronic transmission problems this car would be great. I have a 2011 grand touring model and it is very versatile as a "mom car". Unfortunately I've had problems with the transmission since about 4 months of owning it. I've taken it to the Mazda dealer numerous times and I'm told the harsh downshift is within normal limits and these transmissionsites are known to do it. Really? It gives me whiplash everytime I'm braking on a hill. It lurches when going from reverse to drive. It's under warranty and they say they can't do anything about it. I did my research when I bought it and truly got a fair price for at the time. Unfortunately they don't hold their value well at all and I'm almost 7k upside down on it after 2 years of ownership. Absolutely ridiculous! Ininitially I raved about my cx9 but since these transmission issues came up I'd recommend going with another make if youre looking for a 3 row suv
