Most reliable car I’ve ever owned

We purchased this 2001 Mountaineer in mid 2003. I still daily drive it. By far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Other than scheduled maintenance the only thing I have done is replace the fuel pump at 184k miles. It currently has 230k and hasn’t changed a bit since the day we bought it. This vehicle is the perfect power to weight ratio. I’ve yet to find any kind of terrain (mud, snow, ice, rain, hills, etc.) that will even touch it. It just keeps going. The interior is nice with plenty of storage in the rear for vacation or groceries. The fuel mileage is not the greatest but I judge my vehicles off of dependability and by far would recommend anybody to buy one of these if they get the chance.

A great car at a low price!

Very powerful V-8 AWD vehicle that isn't a gas hog. This vehicle is beautiful inside and out. Love the double overhead visors and leather seats. Drink cup holders need to be deeper but otherwise everything is almost perfect! Suspension is a little hard but that may be the tires. This 2000 year model is smaller than the later model Mountaineers, and really has some zip to it. Can beat everyone off the line.

Great SUV!!!

This SUV is absolutely amazing. It is the Luxury version of the Ford Explorer but I think the exterior design was much classier. Comfortable Seats. Easy to understand the controls. Strong V6

Best family car we have ever owned

Great for all around transportation and vacationing in the mountains. Roomy interior and a lot of storage space in the rear. Handles exceptionally well with a lot of power

what more can u ask for

bought my 2000 mountaineer premier used 5 years ago with 120000 miles on it. 200000 miles and still going strong. 5 liter V8 has more than enough power. inside the suv is all comfort and gadgets. the leather and the sunroof makes it seem like your in a Lincoln. I live in Wisconsin and have yet to find a snowy condition this thing cant handle with ease. don't buy one for gas mileage because the V8 does enjoy gas. about 15 in town and 23 on solid highway driving. pulls my 18 foot bass boat with no problem. I would still keep this over any other one on the market

better than a new truck

i recently bought a 2000 mountaineer with the 5.0 v8 for my fiance, lets just say shes now driving my 02 explorer. i drive this truck everywhere. my opinion, the only downfall is its not the prettiest thing when all the new 2015's pull up next to you, however, its got PLENTY of power and sounds amazing. i put a good set of all terrain tires on it and its great in the snow, sand, mud.. ive never done extreme offroading in it here in michigan, but ive never had any problems offroad yet. its at 210k miles and more reliable than the 02 explorer.

Unreal SUV

The 2000 Mercury Mountaineer is the strongest, most comfortable SUV I've driven. The 5.0 engine is a winner and makes smaller displacement motors seem anemic. Mercury paired this proven powerplant with an exhaust rumble guarnateed to excite. The styling ques exceed plain jane Explorers inside and out. My only complaint is a burned out display on an otherwise great sound system (this is typical for quite a few older Mountaineers and Fords.) I highly recommend this vehicle to all SUV enthusiasts. If you can find a nice Mountaineer with a 5.0 engine in good condition...buy it.

Best bang or your buck

The 2000 Mercury Mountaineer i recently purchased was for my daughter. I love the way the truck feels as far as safety. It has the 5.0 v8 which provides plenty of power and very reliable. I would strongly recommend this vehicle to anyone.
