90 Day Review

This is a follow up review (see VW Fan reviewJanuary 2020). I completely stand by the previous review. For me, there is nothing that this car is missing. The Dynaudio system is amazing! I’m still amazed of the critics review of this fantastic car. The torque and HP is equivalent to the V6 Passat that I had (and gas mileage is very similar). I didn’t pay full MSRP for the SEL Premium R Line model and felt that it was a good deal. The Passat is a fantastic car also but the Arteon gives that extra little something that has been missing from the Passat for a very long time.

Great sedan for the money (actual price not MSRP)!

This is a fantastic car for the money - considering the loaded features, all wheel drive, hatchback, room and design. I was worried about some of the auto journalists reviews of this car until I realized they all seemed “oddly similar” in stressing things not really related to driving the car such as, “Who wants a sedan when you could buy an SUV?” Instead reviewing the Arteon, many are reviews of the US car market, VW diesel emission and other random things. Admittedly, the MSRP is way off - but that actual sales prices are perfectly fair compared to comparable cars (none of which offer a 6 yr, 72,000 mile warranty!). I was also worried about the Mediocre IIHS headlight ratings until I realized one only applies to the SE trim, not the SEL’s, and the other gave the SEL lights a low rating for “glare” - meaning glare for other oncoming drivers - not the Arteon driver! The SEL headlights are in fact totally awesome from the driver’s standpoint. Road noise is, indeed, a little loud for a premium car - and the R-Line 19” wheels do in fact roughen the ride a bit - I specifically had to search for a non-R-Line SEL. I prefer the less-decorative, contemporary interior of German cars, and the VW leather is top notch - so again, some reviews criticizing the interior are just not right for my taste. Yes, Audi’s have nicer interiors. The adjustable driving mode settings are impressive - not just transmission shift points, but also suspension dampening, steering ratio, headlight movement and other settings.

Very comfortable

Plenty of room and easy to drive. VW does sell a big car and the ARTEON is it. The sunroof is great and the sports car look makes me feel young again. Thank you

A lot of car hidden in a small artistic package

Owned our Arteon a few months now and still impressed every time we drive it. First car I have ever enjoyed driving every time I get in. Very pleased with everything about it

VW nailed this one! Arteon SEL Premium R Line

Ok. Here’s the real deal. Take it from a 25+ year VW owner. The expert and critic reviews are wrong! This is the best VW produced since the Phaeton (and I can make the comparison because I own a Phaeton also). If any review gives less than 5 stars I can’t determine why. It’s amazing that Porsche and Audi use a 2.0 Turbo yet we criticize the comparable engine in the Arteon. The engine for this car is perfect! The Arteon is cool and comfortable. Yes the mpg ratings are not as impressive as others, but, this is a heavy car with 4 motion. And if there was a 6 cylinder it would likely get even lower mpg ratings. The interior is very VW. The ride is smooth and precise. Check the other consumer reviews-we have all given this car 5 stars. The warranty is unmatched. The Arteon has tons of leg room both front and back. Need I say more? Go test drive one.

Great Value

If you're looking for a luxury car at a great price, this is the real deal. Ignore the MSRP, as it is being sold at a huge discount. This car is beautifully designed with a very sharp look. Has decent materials on the inside. Three issues I had is it tends to get a little noisy at high speeds, important safety features are lacking at entry level, and the infotainment system needs to be brought a little higher. All this in mind, you'll still be driving a real German luxury car for $15,000 less

Handsome and versatile for people and cargo

The Arteon is a great car. It's legitimately huge for passengers and cargo. It is quick enough, comfortable, easy to use, and really good looking. My wife is the main user of our Arteon and she claims that people are always asking her about it. It is a conversation starter and a head turner. The 20 inch Rosario Dark wheels are beauties, even if I'd rather have silver over the dark graphite color. What I like best about it is that it is a very useful car. I can load up the trunk with all kinds of stuff and it just keeps taking more. We have no need for an SUV with this car. Which means we don't have to live with the compromises of an SUV (fuel economy, weight, high center of gravity, massive D-pillars, scorn of eco-warriors, etc.). The ride on 20 inch wheels is not as good as professional reviewers make it out to be, but it's better than my 2016 GLI was on 18 inch wheels, so it's not bad. I adjust the ride to comfort-plus. I asked myself a lot of questions about value when considering this car and I have convinced myself that it's not an overpriced Passat. It's an A7 for half the price. I think I'm right. A7s have more technology and more luxury content, but if you don't need all of that, you get plenty of German-engineered and German-built goodness for $40K. Consumer Reports, which rated the Arteon highly, put it in the compact luxury category, competing with the A4 and 3-Series. I don't think that's the right spot for it, but I can't figure what is. Mid-size luxury is wrong because the car is too inexpensive and a little light on content. Full-size is wrong because the Arteon, as big as it is, doesn't really compete with the Chevy Impala. So it's an island, an orphan, a rare machine competing only with the SUVs that people who used to buy great cars now buy instead. Ignore them. Get an Arteon.

Amazing car!

This car is simply amazing! The design is stunning, interior quality is straight from Audi, but with more comfortable seats than an Audi A7 3.0T (my friend has a 2017). Sound isolation is at Audi A8L level (64db @70mph, Car and Driver) The acceleration is fantastic. Plenty of torque all over the powerband, very responsive and smooth 8 speed transmission. I have been getting 34-38mpg on my daily commute. The seats are phenomenal, and after a 3-4 hour trip, my back feels fresh. A simple APR st1 tune gets it to 368hp/383tq. If you go for a apr plus tune, apr will provide you with a powertrain warranty, and almost 350hp. Simply a beast. My favorite car!

Audi performance for VW price

The Arteon is a real beauty outside and everything is OK inside. We own a fully loaded model, and it does not seem to be inferior to the Audi A5 with the 2 L engine. The performance is excellent albeit not thrilling. In general I feel good when I sit in the car and turn the engine on. Overall I am glad to pick the Arteon over the Audi and pay $15K less.
