The car left us mumbling.
“It`s a station wagon, remember it`s a wagon.“
The `88 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport acts like a sports sedan masqueradingas a wagon. The 2.8-liter multiport fuel-injected V-6 engine was really peppy in this machine. We expected such performance from a Eurosport sedan or coupe, not the wagon.
The Eurosport option basically adds larger tires, rally wheels, blackouttrim with red accents, and sports suspension to the regular midsize Celebrity. You then add more goodies in one of three different option packages.
Base price of the three-seat Celebrity wagon is $11,590. The model wedrove had Eurosport option package No. 3 that added $2,333 and included airconditioning, tilt wheel, cruise control, bodyside moldings, floor mats, trip odometer and gauges, intermittent wipers, power liftgate release, roofcarrier, power locks and windows, AM-FM stereo with cassette and digitalclock, and remote sport mirrors.
Other major options included the 2.8 V-6 engine upgrade from the base2.5-liter 4-cylinder for $610, automatic transmission with overdrive for $175,aluminum wheels for $143 and six-way power seats for $240. The sticker read$15,351, with a $425 freight charge bringing the total to $15,776.
Surprisingly good performance, ride and handling. If you have to have awagon, the Eurosport wouldn`t be a bad way to go. About our only objection is that for $15,776, you start getting into mini-van and utility-vehicleterritory, much more fashionable and functional alternatives to a wagon.
