This vehicle has has taken my wife and me cross-country, as well as several other long distance trips, with a sum total of only one flat tire and no other mechanical, nor electrical issues at all! Any repairs have been moderate and frankly expected given the high number of miles (150,000 so far) on it. I expect to keep it for another year and a half.

I have owned the original X3 and followed up with this model. The second generation is certainly a few steps above as far as comfort, style and driving performance. 2012 is the last year the 28i is powered by the 3.0L inline 6. Acceleration is great after getting the software update. Prior to it, I had the aggravating slow response met with a rush of acceleration. The software update has smoothed out the throttle greatly. The ride is super comfortable for day to day as well as trips. I have taken this car on long trips a few times this year and it is great on gas, very comfortable seats and great visibility. It is easy to park and has a tight turning circle. The handling feels like the 3 series sedan! Going up and down hills and mountainsides feels secure. Feature wise, I fully recommend the backup camera and parking sensors as well as the heated seats/steering wheel. Cargo space is adequate for this class and three average sized adults can fit in the backseat comfortably. I will say that BMW has this peculiar way of stripping the cars down in the past 10 years and labeling it as "customization." You notice the small things such as no puddle lights on my particular car, as well as having to get packages for an improved interior/exterior. Another example is if you do not get the Navigation, you do not get the nicely done, upscale graphics on the speedometer area. You have to add leather, a sunroof, heated seats, etc. My older BMW's had a lot of these more common features standard. If you buy this car used, be sure to pay attention to the features and how it was optioned. Overall, the car has been very reliable and a joy to drive!

I read the reviews here prior to purchasing over a year ago, and now that I've had 30k miles to reflect back on this purchase (78k total), I think the lack of reviews seems to be pretty indicative of what ownership is like. Zero reliability problems, maintence has been cheaper than my 15' Tahoe (awful car, btw), and I've become numb to the ease of ownership because I've found nothing major to complain about with it.. and trust me, I tried. I average 35-40 mpg on a 50 mile round trip commute and I charge at night. I don't even notice when the engine kicks on (I have to look at the tachometer to know unless I'm gunning it), but when it is on, this thing is a little rocket. I wasn't quite ready for a full EV and this has far exceeded my expectations for bridging that gap, so much so that I drove a 2018 X5 35i and it felt like I went back to the stone age. Only minor complains: Cabin so insanely quiet I hear little crackles in the interior when I smack potholes, infotainment is complex (every BMW has this issue), and I can only get 18ish miles out of pure EV mode. The fact there are hardly any bad reviews of this car on here (aside your typical Karens) just tells me that owners, like myself, have nothing we need to shout from the rooftops to forewarn about. I've recommended this car to friends and family, I'd buy another one, and I concede that there's always the possibility something eventually could go wrong.. it's a car after all. This car is simply beautiful, spacious, unique color. It is gorgeous inside out. You don't see too many BMWs this color so I think it is unique color. It has one of the smoothest ride, which I find a plus for long trips. Love it!

I love the M-sport package look on this car. It looks sleek and sporty. With a cold air intake this car sound beautiful. Rides great and can save a lot of gas in eco mode vs sport mode. Paddle shifters are fun and responsive.
