Bought this 2016 GMC Canyon (4cyl) at car max in 2017 . It was part of a commercial fleet and was well taken care of and low mileage . I’ve only have had one problem and that was in the engine cooling system where I had to replace two hoses and a goose neck . While repairing that I noticed an oil leak around the valve cover so I replaced the gasket . It was under warranty still ( just happened in Jan 2024 ) . I could have repaired it myself but who wants to get all dirty when it can be repaired by GMC at little or no cost to me. It still has 6 months remaining on warranty ( I did purchase from CarMax) hoping it does not need any further repairs . It is 8 years old and according to its records this is the first repair other than natural repair items that had ever been needed . It rides well pulls my utility trailer fully loaded just fine . I also have a 2000 Ranger that I had to replace the tranny on when it was just a few years old . It has never needed any other work. I believe the GMC will last me for years to come . But you never know so I will be buying another after market warranty on it when the time comes . I’ve already added that to a 2015 vehicle I own who’s warranty had expired . I’m a old school mechanic I can repair olde vehicles easily ( compared to todays ) I’m also a former Turbo Prop Mechanic from the Air Force and worked those motors for almost 29 years . I had worked on Piston Air Craft Motors for a few years before the change . A lot like a car piston motor in many ways . Two kinds of piston motors on Air Craft . Line a cars block or a receptacating motor( Round) . Very easy to trouble shoot vs Turbo Prop. Just letting you know that I have experience as a mechanic and know a real problem vehicle when I see one . Would buy a GMC canyon again or maybe go larger due to my new 42 foot long Camper I have rec bought .

GMC Diesel Canyon AT4. I've had this truck for a year-11,000 miles. I love it. The Denali and Elevation trim looked like junk. The AT4 can't compete with the Tacoma off road but, It holds it's own off road. The Diesel pulls like a beast and the exhuast brake, on all the moutain passes I drive, is worth it's wieght in Gold. I trailer the max. capacity regularly and it's smooth sailing. I traded in my 2500HD Silverado with the vortec 6.0 for this big, little truck. Best decision I've made in a while. I had this truck on order for 8 months and Gm never accepted the order. I finally found exactly what I ordered, just off the truck that morning that I called. 1300 miles away, I jumped on a plane to go get it. Crying shame GMC discontinued the diesel. The extra $ per gallon right now is easily washed by the increase in mileage, 32+ higway, 19 trallering almost 8000 #'s. I wouldn't want the truck without it. Wouldn't want the Elevation or Denali. Diesel AT4 is the truck. I'll keep it the rest of my life barring accident. I'm sure I can get 40 years out of this truck doing 10-12k a year. The regeneration of the exhaust has never come up but, I only do a little round town driving. Most of my miles are highway and hauling a load. I've heard horror stories about regen. from city folk, commuters... You get what you aim for. If you've given it a lot of thought and the diesel AT4 seems right for you, you won't be disappointed. Good luck finding one. GM - You've a winner here. don't let it get away. Ps. Cars.com doesn't have a choice of how I use this truck for WORK. In October 2020 I purchased my 2020 Ford Explorer ST at Koons Sterling Ford and have loved every minute of driving it. I've had it in for regular maintenance and recalls at the dealership but just recently on September 26, 2025, I had my best experience when I brought my Explorer in for a new battery. I had the pleasure of having Bradley Cadenas as my service rep and was very impressed with his professionalism and his outstanding product knowledge regarding my Ford Explorer. I wasn't aware of the FordPass reward points I had accumulated, and Bradley was very helpful in helping me manage these and applying them towards the cost of the new battery and related service work. I felt like I got the "red carpet" treatment and look forward to working with Bradley in the future--he is a credit to the dealership and particularly to the service department. Keep up the good work!

I have loved and owned Chevy and GMC midsized trucks since 98 when I purchased a used S-10. My latest purchase is a 2021 GMC Canyon Denali bought brand new. It's been a great truck until my power steering unit went out due to corrosion. It only has 32,200 miles on it and I have never gotten it wet other than car washes and driving in the rain which is normal conditions. I had purchased a mid grade extended warranty through GMC after my lease was up and purchased the truck. I am being told this is NOT covered due to it being external wiring. So I feel this is a manufacturing malfunction and bad engineering for water to be able to get in to cause such corrosion so beware. This is an open case filed with GM currently to hopefully rectify the matter.

Love my yukon, but not the plexiglass headlights. You can not clean them to get them clear. It really is a safety hazard for night driving. The film on the headlights blurs the light output. The cost to replace them in ridiculous!

Friendly staff, great price for the car. There was a far bit of waiting around but with the volume of cars they are shifting on a daily basis, it was kind of expected. From the very short test drive to driving out with my car was around 45 minutes.Would definitely use then again.

Got the duramax diesel and getting 24 city and 32 highway is very good. Truck drives nice and is very comfortable. My 2 issues with this truck is the backup camera at night is useless (very dark) and interior lighting is not very good. You would have thought a 78k truck would have footwell lights, but it doesn’t.

I always bought the GMC Acadia (4 times) but decided to try the terrain. I absolutely love it and it's a great car for zipping around in town. I would take it for a weekend trip but not on a long trip as it doesn't have a lot of cab room, but for two people it is fine

Taking it on road trip Oklahoma to Key West Florida w/ stopover in Tennessee. I am getting 30 mpg running 75 mph. It handled like a dream going through Smokie mt. I was getting 32 mpg there. I like the ride on the interstates & I love the adaptive cruise control.
