I bought my 2002 Ford Focus stationwagon 9 months ago with 180,000km for 1400 CAD. It has the 2.0 Zetec engine and the 5 speed manual transmission mated to it. Currently sitting at 215,000km and it is still running strong. Comfort-wise it's great. I made a 11 hour drive in one day and was not even sore, the amount of headroom, especially in the wagon, is great aswell. Interior design, is alright, it's quirky. Lots of curves, definetly shows its age but everything works great and is easy to operate. Performance wise, its alright. Definetly not a race car by any means, but it is fast enough. The value for money on one of these used is amazing - if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and can do basic repairs and maintenence. Exterior styling is good, its a very interesting looking car. Since I got it 35,000km ago heres what I've done for repairs: Valve cover gasket, motor mounts, hatch struts. I've done a ton of maintenence, all the reccomended stuff for this mileage, but those are the only things I've had to repair. It is currently leaking a bit of oil but on a 1400$ car it doesn't really bother me, doesnt even leak enough to get even halfway down the dipstick between oil changes. It hasn't ever left me stranded.

My stepbrother who was a drug addict and tore this car up had it for about 2 years. Backed it up over curbs at speeds of 15 an hour a few times and eventually i got it and drove it with 2 misfires. Wheel bearings that were in pieces and 2 broken engine mounta for a year and a half. I grew up a littlw and began to take care of my car and she still runs like a brand new car after ive iust replaces the coil pack bearings and 02 sensors. Ive not even done the engine mounts yet and shes still running like a smooth new car. Wyen my 02 dies out im getting a 2017 corolla

Just eclipsed 300K miles last week with my 2008 Hyundai Elantra! Bought it new and have replaced the alternator and that’s about it. Am faithful about oil changes every 8-10k miles. Amazing! Hope to retire in less than two years and drive 30k miles a year. Hoping it will last!

The 2011 Nissan Cube is the first car I’ve ever owned and I see myself keeping it for at least the next few years. It handles extremely well and has a very comfortable interior with a great sound system. My only complaints are the small gas tank and the slow acceleration but the comfort and reliability far out weigh that.

In late 2015 I ordered and bought a 2016 Hyundai accent. I was looking for a car under $20,000 CAD that would suit my purposes and that would be safe enough for my teenaged kids to learn and drive. The dealer experience was not what I would call a positive one. As this is about the car I will not go into detail here. The look of the little 2016 accent hatchback is really a 8/10. Put on some cheap fun stripes and you’ll be getting second looks; 9/10 then. Other body styles for the Accent are well…meh. Now the car itself is cheap to buy, and built cheaply. There is no doubt about that. There is an awful lot of road noise, there is usually some body part rattle, the torque is laughable, but again—it is cheap. I call this a Meccano car. Why? Because replacing parts is as easy as a Meccano set. And you WILL need to learn how to do this. This car gets no respect in parking lots; it’s constantly being dinged and hit by other cars. It has low clearance; road debris doesn’t go under the car— it cracks up all the plastic bits. Oh yeah, and the four or so fibre skid plates? Two disappeared within the first six months. One ripped off in a puddle during a rainstorm. However, because there’s so much plastic, and parts are easily available due to the car’s ubiquity, it’s fairly cheap to fix. This car can be insanely efficient. If you’re hypermiling, you can achieve 5.2 L per 100 km. I drive aggressively and get 6.2 or so. In town aggressive, will get you 7.4. My battery lasted six years before replacement. No complaints there. I take care of my car. I do most regular services on time. It’s been parked outside in Canadian prairie weather it’s entire life. It starts at -35C without the block heater plugged in. It’s insanely reliable and is just now displaying the first signs of rust from our heavily salted winter roads. Speaking of which– this thing is so light that you absolutely NEED winter tires up here, even if it is a front wheel drive or isn’t the law. While I would probably never buy a car like this used with 100000 km or more, I have been pretty happy with this thing. I like it better than my past Fords, Nissan, my four Chryslers, and even my Audi (based on price vs reliability). It was a good buy. I knew I was getting a cheap, disposable car. I had low expectations the previous one was no power but sure footed. This one has lots more power and the same sure footed feeling in all weather. I've been converted to a Subaru fan. Not for myself but for my kids.

Don’t know why people hate Nissans with CVT. Now that I’ve lived with the CVT with 140,000 miles I know I wouldn’t buy another one, but it’s been just fine, no issues. This isn’t a sporty vehicle but for 8 years and 140k miles it gets the job done every time. I just don’t get the hatred towards these cars. I do have AWD but if I were to do it over I’d drop that option. It’s expensive to maintain and truthfully I don’t go outside when the weather is bad anyway so I doubt the AWD feature has ever engaged, not even once. I plan to keep my vehicle for 10 years then get a minivan.

After buying Toyota vehicles for years, I found out that they were outsourcing their CVT’s and Honda was making their own CVT’s and after driving a new Toyota Corolla and then a new Honda Civic, I was more impressed with the Honda Civic. My three previous cars were Toyota Corolla’s and I loved them. I am very happy with my 2021 Honda Civic EX and I would not hesitate to recommend Honda.

Love this car! Would buy it again over and over. Have 257,000 miles on mine and still going. Other than brakes and tires, very minimal repairs. Interior, the back seat had an issue because I put too much weight in the trunk, and it is known to buckle. Exterior is cheap and has just started to rust after 13 years in one corner of one fender. The only major repair I have had was on the rear suspension and because these are no longer made, I couldn't find a new part for it, but it was easy to find one at a junk yard. This is a reliable daily driver for me and I take it everywhere. The only people I wouldn't recommend it for is someone really tall. I had 6"2" driver, and he fit, but not as comfortably as he would have liked.
