Few people can understand that my car has 250,000 miles and is 25 years old. Once you refresh the fluids, belts, bushings, bearings, rubber and clutch you will have one of history's top 5 handling cars... capable of running another 250k. Check the oil, brake and power steering fluid on a weekly basis and be sure that the fuel lines in the engine bay have had the Federal Recall done. Pull 3rd gear at 4,000 rpm's into a right-hand sweeper and watch your rear view mirror cars shrink.. IMHO, only a Corvette, Lotus Exige, Boxster/Cayman/GT3, most any recent Ferrari/Lambo, or an M3/M5 would handle as well as the antique 944. And none of those cars can be found running for $4,000 or less. Porsche - There is No Substitute.

I've owned a dozen sport cars including 911s, the 944 beats them all. It makes a crummy driver like me look good. Forget power to weight ratio, torque is what you want. The 944 delivers everything. Mine increased in value $600- last year. Easy to work on and they don't rust. Step up to Porsche quality, you won't regret it. BTW I am a PCA CVR member and have enjoyed my 944T for 20 years.

The 944 is a joy to drive the NA versions are slow car fast and handle even worn out very well. The motor is present not spectacular at low rpm it's vw 2.slow like at the top end it's all good induction noise like many non 8 cylinder German engines. Braking is decent but not modern, Interior on the early cars is cheap the later ones less cheap, seats are comfy and the hatch is very usable, exterior looks good the pop up headlights add to the screaming 1980s vibe and in the right color looks great. Starting with the cons it's not fast my but dyno tells me mine is making 110ish hp at 260,000 you want fast get a C4 or C5 Vette when the car does need work it's not cheap took $4,500 doing it all myself to bring mine back from the brink of death not great but decent for a Porsche. Interior and wear items can often be worn with age and 6+ owners (mine had 16 previous owners...) plus a 30 year old entry level sports car often being not maintained and put away wet by many previous owners. Overall can recommend one of these great handling fun to drive practical Miata's if you don't want to potentially spend alot on maintenance there are newer and cheap platforms but if your willing to put in the time it's a fantastic car

Here is a review of my start to finish process of buying a car from Gateway Classic Cars, Ft. Lauderdale: ----- 1. The sales people who you work with are not on site. They're working remote so they don't have eyes on the car. ---- So, 2. You'll want to be connected with someone on site who can start and drive the car, provide a walkaround video, pictures of whatever you want and give their input. I worked with Alex at the Ft. Lauderdale location for my purchase and he was outstanding with helping me to know the car before making an offer. He is the reason that this is a 5 star review. -------- 3. Hauling: They'll get you a quote for hauling the vehicle. I chose Nexus Transport myself to use. They were a bit cheaper and top rated by Forbes. That went just fine. --------- 4. These cars are all on consignment. So, I feel that you have to be a little more careful because you have another party who may not have disclosed things to Gateway. Best practice is to get a pre-buy done from someone like Lemon Squad. That being said, I was so comfortable with my deal, took the risk and waived the pre-buy. And in my case, the Prowler is a mint gem and I have no concerns after receiving it. Also, there is a common thought then you buy a car like this, you should budget 10% or so of the price for maintenance right after you get the car because stuff always comes up, otherwise, don't buy a used car. --------5. Since they're on consignment, they have commissions they charge the seller. As a buyer, I don't care if I see a commissions line on the purchase agreement. As long as my out the door number was what I offered, that's fine. --------6. I wired money to them and within a few hours, I had all the fully executed paperwork back in my hands. Title took about 3 weeks to receive by UPS. And the folder had everything I needed to register the car in my state. Wow! Thank you Barbara! ------ 7. So here is what breeds loyalty. Alex at the Ft. Lauderdale location made sure the car was completely ready to be picked up including accessories that were bubble wrapped. The car was supposed to be picked up at Noon on Saturday, plenty of time before they closed at 5pm. He stayed until the truck arrived...very late....AT 1:30am Sunday morning!!!! (Otherwise, it would have sat until Tuesday). I cannot believe he did that for me. I received my car loading video at 2am. That's unbelievable service that deserves more than 5 stars. ------- Summary: I'd have zero issues with buying from Gateway again....they just operate in a different dealership style than what I'm used to, which is just fine.

Porasche 944's are rare and are great sports cars to own and drive. They drive like a dream, especially with the sun roof open in the winding roads of the coountry.

It's an excellent drivers car, I have a 944na, so it's not fast, but it's still an amazing Porsche experience behind the wheel, it handles very well, and for a sports car it's comfortable

I've enjoyed my '86 951 for 25 years. Just turned 40K miles. I'm a member of PCA and I we get compliments at every event. I've handed my keys to 911 guys at Lime Rock and they come back from a few laps and say "that's it, I've got to have one." They are plenty quick, predicable, and the turbo can be chipped to a modest 300 hp rocket ship. Tons of un to toss around and they last forever.

In '87 traded up from my 924, a lightly used '85. Loved that car, Guards Red & 5 speed manual. Handled incredibly well, and had it up to 130 (speedometer) on the NJ Turnpike once. Wasn't the fastest but nimble made it quick and I thought really good brakes. Saw many Corvettes disappear in the rear view mirror through the twisties in rural Virginia. It did develop a drive shaft problem & expensive repair. But I did most of the maintenance myself - changed timing belt, brake pads, oil, plugs, etc.

Took factory delivery in October 1985 of a white '86 951 (944 Turbo). Still have it...wonderful car to drive, performance, handling, looks. My plaything on the weekends and only $30K miles after all these years. Versatile with the hatch for a run to the store or an overnighter or for the golf clubs. Lopes along at 85mph in 5th gear, drop to 3rd and punch it, the turbo kicks in and your head snaps back. 220hp stock, can be chipped to 300+hp, relatively light car with unbelievable handling and you have a real winner. You are at $100K for anything close today. And...it's a PORSCHE!!

Everyone at the dealership was great to deal with. The technician who took me to look at the vehicle was very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. He also gave me great advice on what to do with the vehicle in terms of restoration work that would save me money and time in the long run, while still making sure I would get the best work done on the vehicle. The Naturally Aspirated isn't the fasted of the 944, but it is still quick, and turns on a dume. Way before it's time, and under appreciated it. very few complaints. I would say, as a mid-late 80's car, the electronics were what had the most issues. Since it was fuel injected, the gas mileage was always great. The car today 2018 still almost has zero rust, which is almost unheard of.

Excellent service fast efficiency is key at this place. Tgey are great at it. Very attentive to detail. Nothing more to say other than it was excellent service.

The Porsche 944 is one of the greatest "drivers" cars of all time, born from Porsche racing and bred to be affordable it's excellent bang for your buck. With the front engine and rear transaxle design you get a near 50/50 weight distribution and the feeling that the car pivots around the driver in the tightest curves and handles near better than any modern car.

I had been looking at C3 Corvette's for almost 2 years and I finally found my 1979 Corvette with Glass T Tops and a 4-speed manual transmission and a very clean interior and very clean interior. Very good looking Corvette and they called me earlier today and the shipper told me it was ready to be shipped out, so I should have my dream car next weekend. The sleek styling of the 944 gets me every time I sit behind the wheel. Though not the famous 911, a 944 offers a Porsche experience for little money. I highly recommend buying this car because it is a real sports car and a real Porsche at that!
