Great car overall. Drives very well and quite punchy and fun with a good turbo. Reliable, haven't had much issues so far. Value is great especially since they are loaded well and its less then 10k for a decent one. VERY VERY safe car, Saab's are extremely safe and this car gives you confidence that you are safe. I have a 2.0T which gets good mpg for its class, I once got around 40 mpg highway. The 2.0T is fun and punchy with impressive acceleration, most reliable too. If your willing to spend a little more and have significant funds for maintenance and repairs go for a 2.8T V6, which is fast. It handles well. Pros: 1. Well priced, good value 2. Stylish and unique design 3. Great cornering headlights xenon 4. Good engine, reliable if maintained, fast/quick 5. Very Safe, Swedish Metal 6. Jet fighter interior look Cons: 1. Rear seat legroom is a little disappointing but not a major issue for me, but if you have a large family i wouldn't recommend this car, go for a 9-5 instead. 2. Paint damages easily when older, these 9-3s can have paint peel issues in the long run if you live in hotter climates. 3. Some interior pieces aren't the best of quality for it's class. Door handles and small things, it can be creaky. Overall: Here and there it has minor disappointments but it definitely makes up for it very well. Great and fun car. I highly recommend this as a first car or commuter, maybe even for a small family.

This is the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Drove her off the lot brand new and 16 years later and 150K miles, she’s still smooth as silk. Only repairs are a window and windshield wiper!! So sad they don’t make these cars anymore.

Got the car back in 2010 with about 11k miles it's still running great with regular maintenance at ~284k miles now. Some minor issues along the way but still runs great.

I have owned my 900 for about 1 year now and am in absolute love with it. I purchased my specific car in Seattle and drove it almost 1000 miles home and never once had an issue. It has been a pleasure to own, drive, and even work on. For a vehicle that’s close to 30 years old and has almost 200k miles on the odometer, it still handles and performs like a dream, feeling like a big boy go-cart. Chassis is rigid and super strong, even today (if you get a fairly rust free example of course), a testament to how well these cars were built. When you look past the weirdest of how everything is put together it is a fairly standard car to work on and not overly hard. No overly complicated electronics here and it serves its purpose well, the 92’ n/a came with a 2.1L DOHC 16 valve 4 cylinder that was also well designed and built and is overall very reliable. Every car has its Achilles heel though and for the 900 it’s the gearboxes. The 5 speed doesn’t feel like something out of a luxury hatch as it does a John Deere tractor and doesn’t fit the car very well in my opinion. It works ok and if driven a certain way it will not give you many issues, but it’s no Honda tranny. If your mechanically inclined and have access to a shop, there’s plenty of upgrades you can do to improve the feel, rigidity, and reliability if you so choose. Overall, I love my car and all 900’s in general and the interior and exterior styling is just gorgeous in my opinion and is very tastefully designed. A worthy classic that you can find for a good price, the community is absolute gold too.

Bought used with 30K miles in 2006. Now has 88K miles. Only problem so far is power antenna; we just leave it up. I do oil changes at 5K, replaced spark plugs at 50K, tires at 60K and replaced battery before winter of 2011 (preventive maintenance). All else is original. Fun to drive, quick, 28 mpg local and 32+ travelling. This 2001 4 door 5 speed manual turbo moon roof hatchback is wonderful car. Too bad they stopped making them.

I recently purchased a 2004 Saab 9 3 Arc convertible. I knew very little about Saabs but they always intrigued me. I've only had it for a few days but I am very impressed with its overall quality, comfort and performance. Saab stopped making cars in 2012 because they could not compete with their Audi and Mercedes target market. Having owned both of those German brands, I think Saab approaches them in quality. Test drive one, I think you'll enjoy it.

This is my third Saab, second 2001 and second 5 speed. Nowadays for the price you can not beat them. I paid 2k for a well taken care of 2001 with 102,000 miles on it last July. It is a 17 year old car and based on the condition it was in and the mileage, it was definitely babied. The hood needed to be repainted (some twit keyed it) but outside of that was in mighty fine shape. Very comfortable car to drive, decent mileage, 5 speed is fun, and a very peppy turbo charged 2.0 liter engine. Audio was terrible but replacing the speakers and the door speaker amp made a world of difference. I kept the standard head unit as I did not want to break up the integrated look of the interior with an aftermarket unit and I also added an aux plug to it. Car sounds very nice now. The drink holders are a little sad and not very practical but such is life. I have the four door fastback and there is tons of storage available for a car it's size. Key question - would I buy another? Heck yes, especially if it was a Viggen!

Recently purchased a rare find 2003 Saab Convertible 9-3, one owner with low 45,000 miles. Love the way it handles and quality styling. I sold my 2015 Acura, which I Loved, because of the technology package. Simply didn’t drive enough to keep the system charged and constantly worrying about cost if something goes wrong. This little Saab is so adorable and I’m no longer stressed by all the bells and whistles of my Acura!

The convertible is a great 2nd car. the trunk space and back seats are minimal, but with the top down, cruising on the hwy, it is a blast to drive. I have 125k and have had few problems - replaced the starter and some other wear & tear stuff. Parts are pricey but not crazy and if you find a mechanic who knows what he is doing, it is not that expensive to own. Oil changes, tune ups, tires and brakes are no more expensive than on my Ford. The styling is sharp on the outside, but cup holders and door buttons that are behind you are inconvenient and the cupholder on the dashboard is an accident waiting to happen. This car has been dependable and if you find one that was well maintained, it will last a long time. Make sure it has TWO KEYS!!!! Keys can only be made at the dealer and have to be programed to the car - about $300 each!!! I get about 20+ mpg and like the handling and the turbo charged acceleration. It is good to check out one of the SAAB sites b4 buying one. Make sure the prior owner maintained his car - do not get a fixer-upper. If this is your family's only car, get a Nissan or a Honda, don't take a chance. But for a 2nd weekend cruising car, for the $, it can't be beat!

This car was amazing. It lasted 12 years and 190,000 miles before a tree landed on it and it needed too many repairs. Over those 12 years is only needed an alternator and a seat rip repaired, that is it. The car was excellent as it handled well, it got great gas mileage (averaged 26 mpg in the suburbs, 35 or 36 mpg on the highway), and had nice acceleration with minimal turbo lag. The fact is was so durable made you overlook to some degree the unusual controls. The turn stalk felt flimsy like you could break it easily but over all those years nothing went wrong with it. The key is in the center but that was fine and Saab claimed they did it so you would not hit it with your knee in a car accident, and break your kneecap. This car even had one USB port even though it was a little before its time. The heads-up display worked well. Even though the car was badly damaged by the tree as I had to go off road and damaged the underside of my car badly, my mechanic bought it from me, fixed it, and sold it to a college student. Now it is 13 years old and has over 200,000 miles on the original powertrain. If that is not durable I don't know what is. No car I have owned has lasted as long as that one - not Toyota, not Honda. They also have lasted a long time but the transmissions on both of them died by 160,000 miles for the Toyota, by 140,000 on the Honda. If I could buy a relatively new one again I would but of course I cannot as they are no longer in business. Too bad, despite their quirks, they were durable, reliable, efficient cars.

I continue to have the pleasure of owning and driving my 2002 SAAB 9-3 for 18 years. It has transitioned from weekend drive to daily commute, which has been nice. I bought my NG900 talladega in the winter 2017 from a eldery woman. It was covered in snow and ice and haven't been driven for months. Bought it for just 200 dollars or 1800 SEK. The fuel pump was broken and shock absorber was history. Fixed the essential part but as you can expect there was rust on the fenders as it is a common problem with Saab. As of now it drives like a dream and have tuned it to about 280hp. The comfort isn't the best as is the design but it is a reliable if you take care of it and give it affection. Performance is stunning for a stock car and are known to be easily tuned because of the Trionic engine system. Ofcourse if you speed demon get a EVO or Skyline but for the money i have put in my Saab i think it is much performance and car for the currency.

I have had this 2006 9-3 for 11 years and has never once failed me. The turbo allows for performance yet i about get 30 MPG.

Nice car, handles well. Plenty of room for passengers. This vehicle has ton of extras, leather, moonroof. The only negative is it does not allow Bluetooth hook up for cell phone.

I have been a customer of The Auto Shop (TAS) since I moved to my current home, 1000 steps from TAS. I started as a new customer with their body work on my 1978 Ford Fiesta and for most other cars I've owned since. I became vehicle purchaser in 1997 when I bought a 1987 SAAB 9000 Turbo. Dan, the owner (RIP), told me I should buy it to add some "class" to my ride. I've owned nothing but SAABs bought from this dealership since. It was safe, fast, economical, and roomy, being the fastest "large" vehicle and offering the best mpg of that class as well. The 2.0 liter turbo was the reason. All Saabs after the mid-90s are turbos. The reason I stay with TAS is because Dan's son Tony still offers the best and most economical service in the area. At a time when all others are charging $80~$130/hour for service, TAS charges $68/hour b/c of low overhead. In addition, TAS are the Saab EXPERTS of the area and needn't spend time "figuring out" the problem b/c they have literally "seen it all" having worked on multiple copies of all SAABs available. I even buy tires from them despite having used (and still using for my wife's cars) The Tire Rack several times in the past. There is NO ROOM for underhanded dealing at TAS; such is simply not a part of their standard operating procedures. I have NEVER been as satisfied with a car repair shop as I have with TAS. I recommend them without reservation as a place to purchase a vehicle and as a repair facility. I've even had Rick, the body repair technician, customize parts of several 9000s and 9-5s. This dealership is the best in town. All they sell and work on mechanically are SAABs. I would buy Yugos from this group of technicians. If I moved away from Appleton, I would have to buy a different vehicle with doubtless less desirable service characteristics and policies. Their understanding of the vehicles they sell/service is so good, it would not matter what they sold. Their commitment to good service and fair prices place them FAR above the rest of the car retail industry. Period

The car met all my MidWest needs with heated seats, plenty of head room and leg room. I enjoyed the 3 door model in which the back seat lays flat allowing for a full sized mattress. The average lifespan for this model when well cared for is: 18 years. Mine proved just that and neared 200,000 miles.
