Bought the car from a private sale with over 200k km on it. Been pretty reliable for the most part with a few problems here and there (starter went back in November but was relatively cheap to fix) other then that the intake manifold needs to be replaced. Expect issues to arise down the line of owning this car (carbon buildup, timing chain tensioner, fuel pump, cam followers etc) but aslong as you keep up with maintenance and care for the car I don’t doubt it will the car will bring you anywhere without any issues. Still a good-looking car for its age. The turbo makes it really fun to drive and the mpg is good on freeways. I loved the hidden trunk handle.

This is the best car to cruise around town in. Drives great with plenty of power. Everything in the engine is easy to replace except the turbo.

Had a 2008 GTI and this car is everything the moto-press says it is. Very peppy, surprisingly good highway cruiser, much roomier on the inside than the outside would lead you to believe. Straightforward controls. Handles like a sportcar, which also means slightly rough. Great fuel economy. The GTI as are most European cars is very sensitive to maintenance so do NOT slack on it and it will put a huge smile on your face regularly.

Such a joy to drive... always loved getting in it and going. Never had a serious issue with it in the 11 years I drove it, especially considering the potentially spotty reliability of a turbo VW. Hope to own another GTI one day.

I love the Golf GTI! Been my daily for about 6 months now. Pretty easy to build. Very comfortable interior. The bucket seats are very nice.

The 2.0L FSI Turbo inline 4 engine is awesome. This car also handles beautifully. There's a reason this car started the turbo hatchback wave back in the 90s. It's a legend for sure. Lucky to own one.

I think the mpg could be better for the size of engine vs power, yet I can't complain about the power, as it sure delivers it!

I bought my car new in 2009, put 50k miles on it (I walked to work for 5 of those years) and still love it. It’s the first and only car I’ve ever owned. It has had two major issues that arose within the last year. First, the dsg transmission failed, but thankfully just in time for the deadline to get it fixed for free. The VW dealer completely rebuilt my transmission, and now it works better than new. Now, the headliner and door panels are falling off. That will cost $900 to fix. Thing it, it’s just too darn fun to drive to give it up. It’s a happy little car that does exactly what I ask of it on a winding road, yet it’s surprisingly practical. My four year twins love riding in the back seat. They call it “mommy’s race car.” It has attracted small crowds at IKEA on multiple occasions—people are shocked at the sight of a small sofa sliding into Volkswagen. Yes, I’ve threatened to sell it and get a V6 Camry, or the new Accord, or a 3-series BMW, or even a Civic R. But whenever I get back into my car after test driving the other options, I still like my car better. It’s just so well composed. Unless I somehow strike gold and buy an AMG Mercedes wagon, I expect to someday replace my car with another GTI.

I absolutely love my VW GTI. It is the older body style which I actually prefer, it seems more curvy than sharp edges. She (the car) has power when I need it and with the manual transmission I am completely in control. It is definitely not a family car as it is difficult to get into the back seats, but comfortable once you are there. The hatchback and fold down back seats allow me to put in my bicycle easily after I take off the front wheel. There is quite a bit of road noise and if I have my headset in for a phone call the other end can hear the noise. Another downside is the door size. The 2-door model has huge doors and if you are in a tight parking spot it takes a little yoga to get in or out. Gas mileage is completely acceptable (it takes premium) and the little bit extra I use for some power maneuvering is worth it. I feel safer in this car because of the power and the ability to sneak into small spaces.

I read the reviews, considered all the good and the bad and still took a chance. Found a local person familiar with the type of car for a PPI. They di fix the AC on their dime. The car did have a minor accident on the drivers passenger door, not reported on the Experian report. This was not a deal breaker for me. I chose to fly out of state to make sure I got the title in my hand. Everyone was pleasant to work with from the moment I contacted them. I took one star off only because I arrived around 10:30am and wasn't able to leave till 4pm. I drove the car 500+ miles home without any problems.

I traveled 6 hours from North Carolina didn’t know what to expect. After the test drive, their mechanic Lucas addressed all my concerns I initially expressed form the test drive. Everything was taken care of, I just got back home after driving this beast back home. Thank you guys for such a great car!

This is really my wife's car and I just simply steal it from her whenever I want because I love driving it (own a SportWagen myself). In the 7 years we've owned the GTi it has been a pleasure to own and drive, my wife is so attached to it that she refuses to buy any other new/used car. Over the years its needed a few small things fixed but I still think its one of the most reliable vehicles we've owned (and we owned a lot of them). Its needed a cooling fan which cost us 100 bux about 3 years ago, recently rear rotor shields started to rattle - fixed them for about 2 dollars and some of my time in the driveway (mechanic for trade). Spoiler LED light went out which was covered by the warranty. I do all our maintenance thus it gets 3-5k mile Motul synthetic oil changes, cam follower changes every 30k miles, 40k DSG service. I've updated the PCV system, replaced the timing belt and variable cam timing- chain recently and did 1st carbon cleaning at 100k miles. One set of coil packs and 1 rear wheel bearing - caused a ABS light to come on. I don't think you can find a better car in its price range or category which gives anyone as big of a smile on their face as this GTi. It handles like a dream with good set of Pilot Super Sport and upgraded sway bar. Car gets regularly cleaned/waxed and even after 10 years it looks spectacular. We can afford to own vehicles many times its original price tag, but why ? This car has been a such hoot, we actually own two MKV VWs because this one has impressed me so much !

In my opinion this is one of the best hatch out there. Its quick, light, nimble and VERY responsive. This car is a pocket rocket with seating for 4 or 5.
