Purchased used S 5-speed manual with 33,000 miles on it about four years back. Just passed 100,000 miles last month. Only one problem so far, with the passenger door latch assembly. We get about 37 MPG mixed city and highway, and 45-50 MPG in interstate highway driving. FWD and snow tires work fine here in Wisconsin. The turbo motor and 5-speed provide all of the acceleration one will *actually* need, and also provide those great economy numbers. As part of the Golf platform, it's a solid car and the handling is good. The ride comfort is also good, maybe enhanced by the taller 16" tires on the S version. Simple controls, without an overly complicated radio / info system. Manual ventilation controls (knobs) are a huge plus. With the rear seats down, it has about the same cargo space as our 2009 Subaru Outback: little narrower but also a little longer. Good outward visibility. Driver seat can get a little tiring after a long drive (4 hours or more) but it's comparable with other highway vehicles we've owned. Reasonably quiet inside considering it's essentially an economy vehicle. A very nice economy vehicle, though. We like it enough that we're considering getting another one before there are no more good wagons in the market.

Today, we had four key fobs that had failing batteries in them. We struggled with the task, so we went to Harper Ford, Eureka to see if they could help. We were very pleased with Dave at the Parts and Services Department. He was very pleasant and even though it was small tedious request, he cheerfully completed it as if we were the best customers in the world. We have purchased three cars from them in the past and in each transaction, it was never a time that I felt that we were pressured but treated respectfully. The parts department also serviced our car, as well, for a recall and again the service was wonderful. We highly recommend Harper Ford's dealership. In fact, for one of the cars we purchased, we walked away from another car dealership due to their aggressive sales person and the added on additions when it was time to sign on the dotted line for the purchase. The best decision we ever did.

This is a surprisingly great vehicle to drive. The plastic trim parts are poorly executed and rattle, but it can't be beat for drivability. It's also much cheaper to service than my prior Mercedes Sprinter

A+++++!!! Not only were the people at McCrea Subaru helpful, they were also kind. Their communication was excellent. We came from out of town to get the vehicle we wanted and they went out of their way to make the experience painless. Their price was very fair, they took our trade in and made it work, and got us out of there in no time. They were also creative in getting us a deal and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had what we needed. I purchased my 2000 Outback Limited sedan new September 1999 when the 2000 just came out. I still own it and hope I never have to replace it! It has been the best car! With currently 126,000 miles (yes that low as I live in a smallish town) and it’s my commuter. I heard about the engine gasket right after I bought it so I replaced it at 50k miles. It’s only needed age related fixes; fuel pump, catalytic converter, nothing major. Drives excellent in the snow and ice, very peppy through the mountains. All electronics work great (heated seats, wiper heated, side mirrors heated, etc. CD and cassette player still works too! Love my car!!
