(energetic music) Hi, I'm Bill Jackson with cars.com and we're here with the redesigned Chevrolet Aveo Five hatchback. It competes in what's a growing market with the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris. Last year, the sedan got redesigned.
This year it was the hatchback's turn. As part of the redesign, it got Chevy's sort of traditional new split grill with a large Chevy logo in the middle. And it has short overhangs as part of the redesign. It's that distance from the front of the tire to the bumper. It gives it sort of a stubby look overall, but I don't really mind that in a hatchback. (door closing) Again, this is Chevrolet's entry-level car. So don't go looking for wood trim or fancy leather interior. You can get that, but not on this model, which is just one step up from the base model. We've got a manual transmission, manual mirrors. You don't see that every day and overall it's what you'd expect, a lot of plastic. Personally, I don't think it's that bad for an entry level car, but it does have to be said that other cars such as the Honda Fit and the Nissan Versa are a little nicer on the inside than the Aveo Five. Now, again, you have a lot of headroom, which is nice for a small hatchback, but one thing I noticed after driving this car for a while, is I could never get the seat quite where I wanted it, especially for my legs. I'm run all the way back and it's still a little more bend there than I like. Now, the engine only makes 106 horsepower, so you're not gonna win any races, but it's pretty good for mileage. It's estimated to get 27 miles per gallon city, 34 highway. And that's about what I got in a week's worth of driving. One thing though, it, you really want to get the manual transmission. I've driven the automatic. It's pretty slow, and you really have to think about how you're gonna pass and merge. You still have to with a manual transmission, but it's just a little more fun to drive. And like we said, it's a hatchback and for such a small car, there's actually a pretty fair amount of cargo room in there. I was able to get a week's worth of groceries in there pretty easily. All right, now our test models, stickered at $15,000. And for that, you get a car that takes you from here to there, but not much else. <v Narrator>For additional information on this car or any other go to cars.com and our blog, "Kicking Tires".
