(techno music) For 2017 cars.com revamped its longstanding American made index for the first time in the index's 11 year history to really consider and analyze the domestic impact of a single buyer purchasing one model versus another.
The index now looks at five different factors: assembly location, domestic content, transmission sourcing, engine sourcing, and US manufacturing jobs supported per car sold. Cars.com analyzed more than 120 passenger vehicles built here in the United States to arrive at our top 10. Here they are. The Jeep Wrangler led the 2017 American made index with the Jeep Cherokee at number two. The Chicago built Ford Taurus is number three while the Alabama built Honda Ridgeline and Ohio built Acura RDX are four and five. Ford F-150 built in Michigan and Missouri is number six. The Kentucky built Ford Expedition is number seven, while the Tennessee built GMC Acadia is number eight. Finally, a pair of Alabama built Honda's close out the list, the Odyssey and the Pilot. The change in methodology means you can't compare current results to pass AMI's and there's still no real easy way to determine what makes an American car. Many factors exist and no single one offers a complete answer to that question. But cars.com's revamped American made index is more comprehensive than ever, and it gives consumers a better bearing on the economic impact of their purchase. (techno music)
