I'm here in Detroit getting my first look at the all new 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. It gets a ton of styling updates, powertrain upgrades, tech upgrades, an all new Activ trim. Let's check it out.
Starting with the front design, each trim of the Equinox, there are three: LT, RS, and the new Activ gets its own unique front styling. The Activ has a very upright wide-grill design to it, dark accents as well. It also gets actual all-terrain tires, not just appearance package wise, but actual all-terrain tires around 17-inch wheels. Some rugged accents along the side. The Activ also comes with an optional white two-tone roof. I think the overall design looks great. It's a lot more rugged. It looks a lot better in the class, and I really think Chevy has another hit on its hands with this one. The RS gets its own unique grill design as well. Again, with a lot of dark accents. It comes standard with 19-inch wheels. Twenties are optional. It's the first time on an Equinox that you can get 20-inch wheels. And the RS also comes with an optional black two-tone roof package, or you can opt for body color. We're inside the Equinox RS now. Upgrades for the Equinox include, standard across all trims, a new 11-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.3-inch touchscreen display. The touchscreen has Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto connectivity. We've seen it before. It works great. Very intuitive, big fans of it. The Google built-in can be a little creaky, but overall, it's a really, really good infotainment system. Tons of physical controls for the climate. You get this revised electronic gear selector mounted on the column, which opens up a ton of storage space here. There's even a pass-through below the center console for more storage. A nice deep bin as well. Really nice materials overall. This is a pre-production interior, so not everything is finalized. But there are fun accents, some nice plastics, some soft-touch materials as well. A first for the Equinox is a drive mode selector. It really doesn't do a whole lot. There's basically a normal and a snow mode, but that is more helpful than not. The Equinox still comes standard with front-wheel drive, optional with all-wheel drive. Power under the hood comes from a standard 1.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder, making 175 horsepower. And if you opt for front-wheel drive, you get a CVT transmission. If you get all-wheel drive, you get an eight-speed automatic. Previous gen had a six-speed automatic. Inside the Activ, the big news is this two-tone brown and black interior. You get swayed inserts and faux leather trim around the edges of the seats. Not a big fan of the feel of microfiber suede, but it does look nice. Really nice premium look and feel. And hopefully this carries over in terms of quality over to the production version as well. That's what we know about the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox for now. Chevrolet says it should be available middle of 2024. Stay tuned for more details like pricing, fuel economy. And for my full thoughts, you can find them on cars.com. (uptempo music)
