About the video

Apparently, reports of the Hemi V-8’s demise were… premature. Well no, they weren’t premature, they were accurate – but Dodge has changed its management and its mind.

Remember how we told you a while ago that the HEMI V8 was dead? Well, (chuckles) not so much. In fact, the HEMI V8 now is apparently very much alive and well and it's going to be appearing in a big way in the new 2026 Dodge Durango lineup.
You see, yeah, you've got this one. You've got the the SRT Hellcat Jailbreak, which we'll get into in a moment. But the big news for the '26 Durango is that the HEMI is now standard across the lineup. The GT, the RT, and the Hellcat all get a HEMI V8. And in fact, they don't get the same one, there's three HEMI V8s now gonna be available in the '26 Durango. What have they done with the Durango? Let me walk you through it. (funky music) Yep, that's right, the big news for the '26 Dodge Durango isn't a redesign of any kind. It's the elimination of the Pentastar V6 and it's replacement with a standard HEMI V8. And it's not just one V8, Dodge is putting three HEMI V8s into the Durango depending on trim level. This is the new 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak. So what's a Jailbreak edition? It's basically Dodge opening up the order combinations and saying, "Go nuts, make whatever you want." Paint, seats, interior upholstery, wheels, even the seatbelt colors. You get to choose your own adventure. And the result is an estimated 6 million possible build combinations for the '26 Durango SRT Hellcat. That basically ensures that no two versions of the three-row SUV will be the same. You can enlist the Dodge Concierge and pay probably considerably extra money and have it painted a color nobody else can have. There's a huge palette to choose from, and they'll only do it once so the color you choose is the color your Durango SRT Hellcat will be and no other one will be painted that color. There's a premium group package that adds things like a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, an SRT Alcantara steering wheel, black exhaust tips, a suede headliner, power moonroof and more. And under the hood, the powerful Hellcat engine, a supercharged 6.2 liter monster V8 making 710 horsepower, made it to an 8-speed automatic transmission and sent to all four wheels. But perhaps the best part about the new '26 Durango SRT Hellcat will be its price. If you choose a standard one and not the Jailbreak, it starts just 10 bucks shy of $82,000 which is a massive price drop from where it was just two model years ago. And if you want a Jailbreak model, well that'll cost you an extra $995 plus whatever the cost of the options are that you're selecting which is going to vary. Now if you want a new 2026 Dodge Durango with a standard HEMI V8, ordering books are opening August 13th, Wednesday. So you can go down to your local Dodge dealer and put your name down on one of these new Hellcats or any of the other new '26 Dodge Durango HEMI powered SUVs that they're gonna have available. And when we get a chance to drive the new '26 Durango, well, you'll see that at cars.com/news.
