Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are recalling more than 147,000 electric vehicles combined for an issue with the vehicles’ integrated charging control units, which may cause a loss of drive power.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-24 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 SUVs; model-year 2023-24 Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedans; and model-year 2023-24 Genesis Electrified G80 sedans and GV60 and Electrified GV70 SUVs. Over time, the integrated charging control units in the affected vehicles may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, resulting in a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as well as update the ICCU’s software, free of charge. Kia will notify owners April 29, and Hyundai will notify owners May 14. In the meantime, owners with questions can contact Hyundai at 855-371-9460 (Hyundai’s recall number is 257/021G), Kia at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s recall number is SC302), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
