The blogosphere is abuzz today about the new rental Mustang racer called the Shelby GT350-H. This is not the same as the new for-sale Shelby GT500 we mentioned earlier today. This specialized Shelby is meant to be rented — only at Hertz, hence the H in the name — by those who don’t want to buy a separate car for the track but still want the occasional thrill.
The buzz today, though, is over the price and conditions. LeftLaneNews, a blog that specializes in speculation and future model sightings, has real-world photos of the GT350-H in Las Vegas, and its “reporter” asked Hertz reps the cost to rent one of these bad boys. The figure? A whopping $300 a day, plus $50 insurance, with a 100-mile-a-day limit. People who go over the mark will be penalized 25 cents per mile. Ouch. LeftLaneNews also says these limited racers will be sent to dealers after their life as rentals is over and demand a hefty premium much like the original.
We’d like to see a GT350 package offered on new Mustangs as well, but that’s not likely to happen. You can never have too many high-powered Mustangs with big stripes and hoodpins.
