Honda’s stepping it up a notch with the all-new 2007 CR-V compact SUV. The numbers may read like this vehicle is underpowered, with only 166 horses under the hood, but the smooth, standard five-speed automatic delivers steady performance. Fuel economy is up slightly to 22/30 mpg cty/highway for the 2WD models and 22/28 mpg for AWD. There are three trim levels: The base LX comes with all the basics; the EX gets a moonroof, 17-inch wheels, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and an upgraded sound system; and the EX-L gets all that as well as leather seats, heated front seats, satellite radio and an optional navigation system.
Inside, the CR-V is a perfect example of practicality and high-quality fit and finish. Outside, the design could polarize, but at least it’s a bold move — not something you usually see from Honda.
Of course, there are numerous safety features, including side curtain airbags, driver and front-passenger side airbags, active front head restraints, stability control, antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system, all standard.
Prices are expected to be in the $22,000 – $26,000 range. The CR-V goes on sale Sept. 28, so we should have exact pricing for you soon.
