Looks like: Subaru shrank the Legacy
Defining characteristics: Four-door coupe styling
Ridiculous features: None, sadly
Chance of being mass-produced: Little doubt this is the next Impreza
There are two ways to go with concept cars: make them funky, fun and fanciful or make them like a real car that someone might actually buy one day. Subaru has gone with the second option here. There is no doubt that what you see here is the basic design of the next-generation Impreza compact sedan.
Subaru has emphasized four-door coupe styling, which in most applications reduces rear room and comfort versus a traditional sedan. If you’ve ever sat in the back of a current Impreza, there’s not much room to begin with.
The standout feature, though, is the front end. A large hexagonal grille and flat front make the Impreza concept look more aggressive and even a little bit faster. In reality, we don’t know its speed, as the company suggests the next-generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be more efficient than the current one and says it is similar to the new engine in the 2011 Subaru Forester.
