The new 302-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 is expected to achieve 16/23 mpg city/highway, and the new 360-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 should get 15/21 mpg.
If the Environmental Protection Agency’s numbers pan out that would mean that the V-6 F-150 gets the same mileage on the highway as the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid, which gets an EPA-estimated 20/23 mpg. Overall, the F-150 would have the best combination mileage score of any non-hybrid pickup truck on the market. The Silverado Hybrid is also a niche vehicle with sales in the hundreds and a high price tag, while the gas-powered Chevy Silverado and F-150 sell in the tens of thousands of units a month.
