2012 Buick LaCrosse Priced at $29,960

The price is a significant increase from the 2011 model year, which started at $27,130. The new mild hybrid system — Buick calls it “eAssist” — is capable of delivering an EPA-estimated 25/37 mpg city/highway.  For more information on how the eAssist system works, go here.

If hybrids aren’t your thing, an E85-capable, 303-horsepower V-6 is available as a no-cost option. This is a similar marketing approach that Lincoln is taking with its MKZ sedan ($34,645). The 2.4-liter four-cylinder from last year is no longer offered in the LaCrosse, while an all-wheel-drive version (V-6 only) is again available.

In addition to the new powertrains, the 2012 LaCrosse gets 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port added to the standard features’ roster. Buick also got rid of its trim designators for 2012, so you won’t find CX, CXL and CXS decals anymore.

LaCrosse eAssist models will get a new computer interface system later in the year that Buick is calling IntelliLink, which is similar to Chevrolet’s MyLink. The system will come with an 8-inch touchscreen standard.

The price increase also further separates the LaCrosse from the smaller Buick Regal; both models were similarly priced for the 2011 model year. GM also is adding eAssist to the 2012 Regal, which will be available later this year. Buick hasn’t announced pricing for options.
