Vehicles Affected: Approximately 70,400 model-year 2012-16 Tesla Model S sedans equipped with Bosch steering racks
The Problem: The aluminum bolts that attach the power-steering gear assist motor to the gear housing may corrode and fracture, causing a reduction or loss of power steering assist and a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the steering gear mounting bolts and add a corrosion-preventative sealer for free.
What Owners Should Do: Tesla began notifying owners in March. Owners can call the automaker at 877-798-3752, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
