While traffic fatalities remain at their lowest levels since 1950, a 3.3 percent spike in road deaths in 2012 marked the first increase in eight years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. Fatalities last year numbered 33,561, 1,082 more than in 2011, USA Today reported. Still, early estimates for the first half of 2013 indicate a dip from 2012.
