The problem: During cold startup, the engine control unit may deliver inappropriate amounts of fuel into the engine. This can cause a knocking noise and, in extreme cases, result in catastrophic engine failure. This may be due to a fault in the engine management software.
Corrective action: Dealers will reprogram the ECU with a new software program.
Warranty info: This service is being performed free of charge under Mitsubishi’s new-car or extended warranty, whichever applies.
