Vehicles Affected: Approximately 2,100 model-year 2017-18 Ford Taurus sedans with a physical key and non-push-button start built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between July 21, 2017, and Feb. 13, 2018

The Problem: The key can be removed from the ignition switch while the transmission gear shift is not in Park. If the key is removed with the transmission in a position other than Park, it could increase the risk of a vehicle rollaway, injury and a crash.

Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with the issue.

The Fix: Dealers wil replace the shifter assembly for free.

What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
