Vehicles Affected: Approximately 290 model-year 2017 BMW 430i, 430i xDrive, 440i, 440i xDrive sedans, M4 coupes and Rolls-Royce Dawn luxury convertibles
The Problem: The airbag inflator initiators may fail to ignite in a crash, which may cause the seat-mounted side airbags not to deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the airbag modules for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW, which manufactures Rolls-Royce vehicles, will begin notifying owners April 17. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
