CARS.COM — Apart from that rear spoiler and sporty wheels, the 2017 Ford Focus RS could pass for an inoffensive, more mild-mannered hatchback. But announcing itself as a white-hot hot hatch isn’t exactly its style. For the rally sport version of the Focus, the focus is squarely on track performance — as in, 4.7 seconds from zero-to-60 mph.
That’s not to say the Focus RS, which starts at $36,995 including an $875 destination charge, is devoid of styling cues that tip their hand to its racier intentions. The expansive, RS-badged grille area and deep-set lower air intake create a sort of Darth Vader-mouthpiece effect, eating up most of the space that would otherwise be dedicated to a proper front bumper. The black-as-night wheels, meanwhile, have the look of creepy 10-legged tarantulas clinging to the tires.
The interior, however, screams its track intentions proudly, all badged, bolstered, black with contrast blue stitching throughout, and suedelike leather seats. The six-speed shifter follows suit, and the leather-wrapped sport steering wheel distinguishes itself with perforation, stitching and a flat bottom.
