CARS.COM — Hyundai is using the Super Bowl to show off its new, tiny SUV — but before the model’s on-screen debut Feb. 4, the automaker released pricing for the 2018 Kona. The all-new subcompact SUV will start at $20,450, including a destination charge.

The Kona will be available in SE, SEL, Limited and Ultimate trims; the SEL is also available with a color-contrast roof. All versions have front- or all-wheel drive. Two engines are available; SE and SEL trims use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Upper-level Limited and Ultimate trims instead get a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission.

The $20,450 entry price gets you the base SE model with front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive is an additional $1,300. Standard across the lineup is a touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The SEL model ($22,100) adds standards like push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated seats, and blind-spot collision warning with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection is bundled in a $1,500 option package on SEL models and unavailable on base versions.

Limited trims ($25,650) get goodies like 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and surfaces, a moonroof, and LED headlights and taillights. The top Ultimate trim ($28,350) adds extras like the above safety features plus a rear park assist feature and high-beam assist system, a premium sound system, color head-up display, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless device charging.

The Kona splits the competition in terms of pricing. Ford’s new EcoSport subcompact SUV and the Chevrolet Trax start a little higher at $20,990 and $21,995, respectively, but Jeep’s Renegade starts a tad lower at $19,640; all prices include destination.

The 2018 Hyundai Kona goes on sale in March.
