2018 Volvo S90 Strikes Back: Rear Legroom Revisited
CARS.COM — Volvo has given its 2018 S90 a significant update, including an added 4.5 inches of wheelbase. The best part is, it seems that all that additional space is going directly to the backseat, where it was sorely needed.
In 2016, when the S90 debuted alongside a few other full-size luxury sedans, I performed a backseat evaluation. In my testing, the S90 came in dead last by a big margin. It had the smallest backseat and the least features. These two problems are rectified by the 2018 S90, which made its North American debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

Those added inches to the wheelbase make the backseat feel cavernous now. After adjusting the driver’s seat to fit my 5-foot-11 frame, I hopped to the rear seats to check out the space behind the driver’s seat. I was almost able to stretch out my legs completely.
The S90 T8 Inscription on display at the show, the highest trim level, had all the amenities for backseat passengers: massaging rear seats, heated/ventilated rear seats, quad-zone climate control and a “boss button” on the passenger’s side, which allows someone sitting back there to move the front passenger’s seat forward to add even more room.
Further enhancing the backseat experience for 2018 are a panoramic sunroof and an electric rear sunshade (standard on T8 Inscription models).
For 2018, the S90 T5 Momentum starts at $49,095 (all prices include a destination charge), and the T6 at $55,095. The 2018 S90 is also now offered with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain as well in both Momentum and Inscription trims, starting at $64,645 for the Momentum.
The S90’s growth spurt finally gives the sedan plentiful space for its comfortable rear seats.
