2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Line Adds Outrageous Power, Price, Paint Job

CARS.COM — Green and mean is the theme of Porsche’s reveal at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The automaker unveiled the 2019 911 GT3 RS, which Porsche calls the most powerful naturally aspirated series-production 911 ever.

The model is based on the 911 GT3 but adds what the automaker says is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever fitted to a road-legal 911, along with a suspension that features recalibrated rear-axle steering tuned for maximum dynamics and precision.
It uses the GT3’s naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine, but compared with the already wild GT3, the RS adds 20 more horsepower, to 520 from 500, and 7 more pounds-feet of torque, to 346 from 339. Unlike the GT3, which is available with a manual transmission, the RS is only available with a with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 911 GT3 RS rockets from zero-to-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the current 911 GT3; top track speed is 193 mph.

Outside, Porsche put an emphasis on aerodynamics and weight reduction, with exterior additions aimed at improving both. The front and rear ends are made of lightweight polyurethane, and the front trunk lid and fenders are made of carbon fiber; the roof consists of magnesium. In back, the large fixed wing mounted on the carbon-fiber deck lid works in combination with a rear underbody diffuser to increase downforce; Porsche says the GT3 RS produces more than twice as much downforce as the regular 911 GT3 at 124 mph.
Inside, the RS features carbon-fiber-shelled bucket seats; lightweight glass, door panels and door opening loops; reduced sound insulation materials; and no rear seats.
Following the launch of the 2018 911 GT3 and the 2018 911 GT2 RS, the 911 GT3 RS is the third road-legal GT model Porsche has unveiled within a year — and it won’t come cheap. It’s available for order now starting at $188,550 — well above the 2018 911 GT3’s $144,650 starting price (prices include destination).
