Vehicles Affected: Approximately 200 model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks

The Problem: The trucks may have been built with a contaminated electric power steering gear that may short-circuit, potentially resulting in an intermittent loss of power steering assist and an inconsistent steering effort, especially during lower speed maneuvers, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the electric power steering gear assembly for free.

What Owners Should Do: Ram manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners Jan. 3, 2020. Owners can call FCA at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
