BMW overhauled its compact X2 SUV for the 2024 model year, making it a little less little and restyling it to better align with the X4 and X6 SUV “coupes.” A greater overall length and stretched wheelbase should make for a more spacious interior, which sports BMW’s latest infotainment technology — and a hefty price increase. For 2024, the X2 starts at $42,995 (all pricing includes $995 destination), a $3,400 increase over its outgoing equivalent.
BMW previously offered a front-wheel-drive X2, but for 2024, the SUV is only available with all-wheel drive. While BMW taketh away one powertrain option, however, it giveth another in the form of a newly available optional engine. The base xDrive28i was previously available, but its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder now makes 241 horsepower versus the old X2’s 228 hp. Torque also increases to 295 pounds-feet from 258.
New to the X2 line for 2024 is the M35i xDrive, which ratchets output up to 312 hp while making the same 295 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel-economy estimates for the redesigned X2 are not yet available.
Availability and Pricing
The 2024 BMW X2 is on sale now, with the xDrive28i starting at $42,995 and the M35i xDrive at $52,395.
Trim Levels and Safety Features
The xDrive28i rolls on 19-inch wheels and features black exterior trim, LED headlights, a power liftgate, and keyless entry and start. Inside, it gets synthetic leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a power driver’s seat and dual-zone automatic climate control. The iDrive 9 infotainment system features a curved display that melds the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.7-inch touchscreen for secondary functions; it includes navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard safety equipment on the X2 includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, lane departure warning, road-sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic high beams.
In addition to the horsepower bump, the M35i xDrive adds a sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch wheels with blue brake calipers, and aluminum interior trim. Tech upgrades include Digital Key — which allows the driver to use a paired smartphone as the vehicle key — a Harman Kardon premium sound system and wireless phone charging.
