With its new mid-engine layout enabling a more breathtaking performance than ever before, the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette has hardly taken a breath. It debuted for the 2020 model year to loads of accolades, and for 2023, the outrageous Z06 arrived with the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 ever in a production vehicle: a 5.5-liter V-8 with 670 horsepower that screams at 8,600 rpm. For 2024, the Corvette keeps the momentum going with the new E-Ray.

What’s New?

If the idea of a hybrid, all-wheel-drive Corvette makes you gag, the E-Ray’s claimed 2.5-second 0-60 mph sprint and 10.5-second quarter-mile will make you gulp. The E-Ray drives its rear wheels with the same 495-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 engine as the Stingray, but supplements it with a 160-hp electric motor driving the front wheels for a combined maximum of 655 hp. (Because the power output of gas engines and electric motors varies with speed, you can’t just add their peak outputs and get an accurate figure.) While the electric motor and battery add weight, the electric motor’s instant torque and the traction advantage of the driven front wheels makes the E-Ray even quicker from a standstill than the more powerful Z06.

A tradition-shattering hybrid that outruns the performance halo is just about enough change for one year, although Chevrolet has brought the Corvette up to date by including a raft of safety tech as standard equipment. All 2024 Corvettes — Stingray, E-Ray and Z06 — include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian and bicyclist detection, plus lane departure steering assist with lane departure warning, as standard equipment. A rear-facing camera that provides a broader field of view than a mirror can manage through the Corvette’s tiny rear window is also standard across the line.

The Performance Data Recorder is also now available on the Stingray’s 1LT trim. Otherwise, changes for 2024 are limited to cosmetics: wheel designs, graphics, and exterior and interior colors (including a sage-green interior called Artemis).

Trim Levels and Pricing

All three versions of the 2024 Corvette are available as a coupe with a removable targa-top panel or a convertible with a power-folding hardtop for $7,000 more. The Stingray offers a choice of three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. In the E-Ray and Z06, the trim levels are 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ. Full pricing (all prices include destination) is as follows:

Stingray

  • 1LT: $67,895
  • 2LT: $74,995
  • 3LT: $79,645

E-Ray

  • 1LZ: $104,495
  • 2LZ: $109,995
  • 3LZ: $115,445

Z06

  • 1LZ: $109,695
  • 2LZ: $118,595
  • 3LZ: $123,245

Versus Competitors

With few natural predators, the 2024 Corvette sits in a unique position. Its pricing is similar to that of the Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster, but its performance rivals what Porsche’s ultimate 911s can manage for more than twice the price. Starting at $69,950, the 718 Cayman is powered by a 300-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four. The 911, with its twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six making 379 hp, starts at $116,050. To get Z06 power, you need to step up to a 911 Turbo S, which squeezes 640 hp out of its twin-turbo 3.8-liter but starts at a hefty $232,050.
