Those who considered a Ford Maverick last year might find the 2024 lineup a tad confusing when compared with 2023’s roster, especially with the changes for the standard and optional powertrains. For the new model year, the small pickup truck also sees changes in available colors and equipment, as well as a new starting price: The 2024 Maverick starts at $24,995 (all prices include a $1,595 destination charge).

The 2023 Maverick’s standard configuration was front-wheel drive and the 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with a continuously variable automatic transmission. A 250-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic was available, but only with all-wheel drive. For 2024, the Maverick comes standard with the EcoBoost engine — and FWD. AWD costs $2,220 and is a stand-alone option; on the Lariat, AWD is included with the EcoBoost engine. The hybrid powertrain is available on all trims for an additional $1,500 (except on the Lariat, where it is a no-cost option), but it still can’t be paired with AWD.

Trim Levels

The basic Maverick is again the XL trim. For a modern compact truck, it’s traditionally truckish, rolling on 17-inch steel wheels. On the outside, its grille, mirrors, and door and tailgate handles are black. Inside are black-and-gray cloth seats (manually adjustable in front), a manual tilt/telescoping black steering wheel, an ignition switch you have to poke a key into and air conditioning. Modern conveniences include cruise control, power windows and locks, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster screen, six speakers and an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth. Standard safety equipment is limited to forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

The XL’s palette is limited to five colors, and the only option packages are the 4K Towing Package that increases trailering capacity from 2,000 pounds to 4,000 (only available with the EcoBoost engine and AWD) and the Ford Co-Pilot360 Package, which bundles lane-centering steering with blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert.

The XLT gets 17-inch aluminum wheels, gray grille trim, power mirrors and gray-and-blue cloth seats. The XLT trim also opens up the choice of four additional colors and four additional packages: the FX4 and Tremor off-road bundles, a black exterior package and the XLT Luxury Package, which adds heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, heated mirrors, LED bed lighting and a trailer hitch with a 4-pin wiring connector. For 2024, the XLT now comes with a drop-in bedliner when equipped with the XLT Luxury Package; the Tremor Package now includes decals on the hood and doors (a delete option is available); and the Tremor Off-Road Plus Appearance Package is no longer available.

The Lariat sees the most change for 2024 and now includes a spray-in bedliner and wireless phone charging. Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, as is the Co-Pilot360 Assist Package, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-centering steering, Evasive Steering Assist and rear parking sensors. Other standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, silver grille trim, body-color door handles, a power-sliding rear window, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, keyless starting, an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and all the extras from the Lariat Luxury Package.
