Mazda will unveil the redesigned 2026 CX-5 Tuesday at 4 a.m. Eastern. According to Mazda, the 2026 CX-5 will come with a sharper design, more spacious cabin and renewed focus on functionality that could solve some of the CX-5’s biggest issues.
The current-generation CX-5 is a more engaging SUV than many of its compact crossover competitors. The base 187-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder is one of the best values in its class, whereas buyers looking for maximum fun can upgrade to a responsive 227-hp turbo variant of the same engine. It can also be one of the most luxuriously appointed SUVs in its class, featuring a 10.25-inch multimedia screen equipped with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
However, the SUV does have shortcomings in other areas. The multimedia system pairs its 10.25-inch screen with a selector knob in a way that’s complicated and difficult to use, its backseat is too snug, and it lacked adequate in-cabin storage and outward visibility compared to other compact SUVs in our comparison testing.
The more upright rear end shown in Mazda’s teaser image gives us some hope that the backseat might be a little less cramped on the 2026 model, but we’ll have to wait and see when the full vehicle is revealed. Stay tuned.
