Ford’s latest recall impacts more than 499,100 examples of its Edge SUV and MKX SUV from luxury arm Lincoln. The issue involves the rear brake hoses, which may rupture.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2015-18 Edges and model-year 2016-18 MKXs. The rear brake jounce hoses in these vehicles may rupture and cause brake fluid to leak. As a result, drivers may experience an increase in pedal travel as well as an increase in required stopping distance; both increase the risk of a crash.
If the fluid reaches a specified level, the red brake fluid warning light will illuminate. The root cause and resolution for the issue has not yet been determined, but Ford will begin notifying owners of the safety risk Sept. 8; subsequent letters outlining the remedy will be sent at a later date once it’s available, which Ford expects to be in April 2026. Those with further questions in the meantime can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 25S87), the National Traffic Safety Administration vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
