Ford is recalling more than 59,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles over an issue with the engine block heater that may lead to a fire (Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand).
Affected Ford vehicles and their model years are listed below:
2016-18 and 2020-23 Explorer SUVs
2019-20 Fusion sedans
2019-24 Ranger pickup trucks
2020-22 Escape SUVs
2021-24 Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs
2022-24 Maverick pickup trucks
And affected Lincolns include the following:
2016-19 MKC SUVs
2020-22 Corsair SUVs
The engine block heater in these vehicles may crack and leak coolant, causing the heater to short-circuit when plugged in. Electrical short circuits increase the risk of a fire.
Owners of the affected vehicles may notice coolant spots on the ground below the vehicle, an overheating powertrain, a warning light for low coolant, odor or smoke. They’re advised not to plug the block heater in until the remedy has been performed.
As a fix, dealers will replace the block heater for free, and interim letters notifying owners of the issue are expected to be mailed Oct. 24; a second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, likely in February 2026. Those with further questions can contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (its number for this recall is 25SA4), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
