Ford has announced that it will unveil its redesigned 2020 Ford Escape Tuesday, accompanying the announcement with a teaser of the grille and taillights on Twitter.

The current Escape dates to the 2013 model year; it got a light freshening and new grille for 2017. The 2020 is completely redone, moving to a new global platform that also underpins the coming Lincoln Corsair.

The Escape is a key launch for Ford. Compact SUVs are red hot, and the competition is intense with refreshed and redesigned rivals. And Ford has abandoned cars to bet the house on its SUVs and trucks. It promises new tech and performance for 2020, and the return of a hybrid Escape has been rumored.

The 2020 Escape must take on rivals that have gotten a lot better with fresh looks and updated features, including heavyweights in the market such as Toyota’s RAV4 and Subaru’s Forester, both of which were completely overhauled for 2019.
