Avoid Deceptive Emails

CARS.COM — Cars.com merely acts as a forum in which potential buyers can search listings of vehicles for sale and contact sellers to discuss the specifics of the vehicle, arrange for an inspection or a test drive, and/or possibly enter into an agreement to purchase the vehicle. All transactions are between buyers and sellers. Be aware that Cars.com never participates in transactions between buyers and sellers. Specifically, we do not sell vehicles, collect payments for vehicles, warehouse vehicles, or ship vehicles. Finally, given the nature of our service, you should be aware that we do not and cannot verify the authenticity or legitimacy of any buyer or seller.

Report Suspicious Activity

If someone attempts to pull any of these scams on you:

  • Cease all communications with the person. You do not have to give an explanation though you can simply say you are no longer interested.
  • Promptly report any suspicious activity, e-mails, or Websites to cars.com using the Contact page.
  • You may also file a report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
  • If you feel you have been the victim of fraud, you should take any steps to cancel or reverse a transaction or stop payment and you should promptly report this activity to local law enforcement authorities.
