CARS.COM —BMW has marked the spot with the sixth “X” in its popular line of SUVs, filling in the missing slot in the sequence that currently includes the X1 and X3 through X6. The automaker, which today at the 2016 Paris Motor Show unveiled the Concept X2 (le X Deux?) concept, indicated that the coupelike compact SUV is distinctive among its X siblings for its uncompromising sportiness.
The Concept X2 retains the general shape of the X1 — likely to be its closest comparison — but with a more carlike, flattened-out profile and smoother, more flowing character lines; a sharper, narrower greenhouse; newfangled side mirrors; huge wheels; and a BMW emblem just behind the rear passenger window.
The Concept X2’s visage is where its aggressive new attitude is most unapologetically expressed. Everything is just bigger, from the enlarged BMW-signature dual-kidney grille to the lower front body elements flanked by massive air intakes. The rear also has sleeker, smoothed-out lines, along with enlarged circular exhaust ports molded into the metallic lower-body elements.
No word on powertrains or BMW’s possible production plans for the model. Check out the gallery below.
