GM has introduced a plethora of new electric vehicles across its portfolio of brands recently. There are affordable options like the Chevrolet Bolt EUV; the higher-end GMC Hummer EV and 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV pickups and 2023 Cadillac Lyriq SUV; and, for sports car enthusiasts, an electrified Chevy Corvette expected to arrive in 2023. Now comes Buick’s turn to enter the all-electric arena with the reveal of a new Wildcat concept on the road to a combustion-engine-free future.

The Wildcat is an all-electric 2+2 coupe. The car features a low and wide stance, sharply sloped roofline and wraparound windshield that appears to merge with the vehicle’s front windows. Other features include “semi-swing” doors with no visible door handles and thin, camera-based mirrors in lieu of standard side mirrors.

Buick hasn’t released any performance details for the Wildcat, and it’s unclear which — if any — of its futuristic elements will make it into the brand’s first all-electric production vehicle. However, GM says the coupe was created to showcase the brand’s new design language that will be used across various models in the future, including a new version of the three-shield badge that will make its way to other Buicks in 2023. The Wildcat also wears a new face that may carry over to future models: A trapezoidal faux grille sits low on the front and is framed by check-mark-shaped LED lights positioned higher on the hood.

The interior applies sporty, futuristic features like cockpit-style front seats, floating head restraints and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. A long center console divides the driver and front passenger seats, extending to the backseat.

Technology features include a prominent horizontal screen and a smaller screen positioned in the center console. Two additional screens are mounted on the driver and front passenger doors to display images from the camera-based side mirrors.

Electra-fied Future

Along with the Wildcat concept EV announcement, Buick also revealed that it will bring its first all-electric vehicle to North America in 2024 and is aiming to build only EVs by the end of the decade.

Future electric models will carry some form of the Electra name as a nod to the original Buick Electra that was discontinued in 1990. In addition to the new badge and design language modeled by the Wildcat concept, future Buick vehicles will come with three years of OnStar and Connected Services Premium Plan standard with a remote key fob, Wi-Fi and OnStar services.
