The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a thrill ride with its supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine pumping out 640 horsepower. Brian Wong, Cars.com’s Los Angeles bureau chief, got an introductory ride-along in the top-dog Camaro ZL1 around Spring Mountain Motorsports’ West Track with General Motors President Dan Ammann behind the wheel.
The ZL1 amplifies the regular Camaro with a honkin’ engine plus track goodies that include a specially tuned Magnetic Ride suspension, an electronically controlled mechanical rear differential, more serious Brembo-brand brakes and an available 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s hard to get a feel from the passenger seat, but Wong says, “A hot lap did give me a chance to figure out one thing: This thing can really move.”
Check out the video to tag along with Wong on the hot lap and specifically to hear the supercharged noises of the ZL1.
