The month of March isn’t starting off quietly for Ford on the safety front: The automaker is recalling more than 849,310 examples of its Bronco and Edge SUVs over an issue with the backup camera. This recall follows a missive involving windshield wipers and another involving a different backup camera image issue.

Affected vehicles for this recall include model-year 2021-24 Edge SUVs and model-year 2021-26 Bronco SUVs. The accessory protocol interface module in these vehicles may overheat and shut down, preventing the rearview camera image from displaying and increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, the APIM software will be updated by a dealer or via over-the-air update for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 30; in the meantime, owners with further questions may contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (the automaker’s number for this recall is 26S09), the National Traffic Safety Administration vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
