Ford's In-Truck Computer System Helps Save Gas

Ford released a new in-truck computer system last year, called Ford Work Solutions, that would help businesses and employees track everything from tools in the truck bed to the routes to various work sites.
What wasn’t expected was exactly how its users would change their driving behavior and thus save gas.
A Ford spokesman said that some customers are seeing gains of 3 mpg or up to 20% because their employees know the boss is seeing where they’ve been, how long the truck has idled, how fast it travels and more.
The system can cost upward of $1,500 per vehicle and there’s a $19.95 monthly service charge, but if businesses hold on to the trucks long enough, it could pay for itself.
We’d think a similar monitoring system for teenagers built into Ford’s Sync system would be a good way of using this technology for safety gains.
