Get Your Face Ready, the 2023 Genesis GV60 Is on Sale
The 2023 Genesis GV60, the first all-electric production vehicle from the South Korean luxury brand, is now officially on sale with a starting price just south of $60,000. Using the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the GV60 is an all-wheel-drive-only SUV with a maximum estimated range of 248 miles.

The GV60 will be available in Advanced and Performance trims. The base Advanced will start at $59,980 (all prices include a $1,090 destination fee) and include 20-inch wheels, a premium stereo and a 314-horsepower, dual-motor powertrain with a Genesis-estimated 248 miles of range. Upgrading to the Performance model will cost $68,980 and add 115 hp via a more powerful front motor for 429 hp total (and up to 483 hp in Boost mode), Nappa leather upholstery, 21-inch wheels, monoblock brakes and more; range drops, however, to an estimated 235 miles.
Genesis claims the GV60 offers a number of “world-first” technologies. Chief among these is Face Connect, a facial recognition system that will lock and unlock the doors after scanning an owner’s face using a camera mounted on the B-pillar. The camera is a near-infrared unit that will work at night or in low-light conditions, according to Genesis, and the system can store up to two faces. Once inside, drivers can use the fingerprint scanner to start the GV60, relying entirely on biometric data to drive their car and completely eschewing the need for a key.
If you don’t like that idea (and we don’t blame you), you still have the option of using a smartphone- or Apple Watch-based digital key — or an actual physical key.
The benchmark for small electric SUVs is the Tesla Model Y — that’s why we bought one — but comparing pricing is difficult given Tesla’s volatile, nontraditional approach to pricing. As of this writing, a Model Y Long Range with 330 miles of range is priced from $64,190, while the 303-mile Model Y Performance is priced from $69,190. That makes the GV60 competitively priced, though less competitive in terms of range.
While the GV60 is now officially on sale, interested buyers should note that Genesis’ consumer site currently says the GV60 has “extremely limited availability.”
