Honda CR-V: Which Should You Buy, 2023 or 2024?

Most significant changes: The 2024 Honda CR-V gets a new hybrid Sport-L trim level that slots just under the top Sport Touring trim and offers upscale features such as leather seats, a power liftgate, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and sporty gloss-black trim accents and wheels.
The 2024 Honda CR-V adds a new trim level but otherwise carries over with few changes after a full redesign for the 2023 model year. The 2023 update saw Honda’s family-friendly compact SUV get a little bigger outside and a little roomier inside while also gaining a significantly updated multimedia system and an upgraded hybrid powertrain.

2024 Trim Levels
The CR-V’s lineup of trim levels grows to six for the 2024 model year with the addition of a new hybrid-only Sport-L trim, which slots between the gas-only EX-L and top-level hybrid Sport Touring trims. The lineup below the EX-L includes the base LX and EX gasoline variants and the hybrid Sport trim.
Powertrain Specs and MPG

For 2024, the CR-V’s powertrains carry over from the 2023 model year. The LX, EX and EX-L are powered by a 190-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-liter four cylinder engine that puts out 179 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission; front- or all-wheel drive is available. The hybrid-only Sport, Sport-L and Sport Touring trims earn their label with more power — a combined output of 204 hp and 247 pounds-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors. FWD and AWD are offered for Sport and Sport-L hybrids; the Sport Touring has standard AWD. Gasoline versions are rated to tow 1,500 pounds, while the hybrids have a 1,000-pound towing capacity.
Gas-powered 2024 CR-Vs are EPA-rated for 30 mpg combined with FWD and 29 mpg combined with AWD. The hybrids get 40 mpg combined with FWD and 37 mpg with AWD.
Tech Features and Options

The LX, EX and Sport trim levels have a 7-inch touchscreen display with wired smartphone integration, and the rest of the lineup comes with a 9-inch display that includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, wireless charging and satellite radio. All variants have a USB-A port in the front, and all but the base LX have USB-C ports front and rear. The top Sport Touring trim has a standard navigation system, Wi-Fi hotspot capability and Bose premium audio. The 2024 CR-V’s tech features vary by trim level and are included with those trims; there are no notable extra-cost tech features or packages beyond the trim levels.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features and Options
The 2024 CR-V has the Honda Sensing bundle of safety and driver-assistance features as standard. The suite includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed following, lane departure steering assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian and bicyclist detection. While Honda Sensing is standard, a blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert are included only for trim levels above the base LX.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not yet posted 2024 CR-V ratings, but the nearly identical 2023 CR-V earned a Top Safety Pick+ award with the top good rating in all crashworthiness tests. It also earned top ratings for headlights, seat belt reminders and the automatic front crash prevention system in daytime driving, plus a second-level advanced rating for the front crash system at night.
Pricing for 2024

The 2024 Honda CR-V is on sale now at starting prices that are higher across the board from the 2023 model year. AWD adds $1,500 to each trim level except the Sport Touring, which is AWD only. All prices listed include a mandatory $1,295 destination charge that is unchanged from 2023.
- LX: $30,795
- EX: $33,305
- Sport: $34,645
- EX-L: $35,955
- Sport-L: $37,645
- Sport Touring: $40,795
Which Should You Buy?
For most buyers, a 2023 CR-V will get you virtually the same vehicle for less money. The exception would be if the new Sport-L trim level appeals to you. It offers a sporty look and nearly as many upscale features for more than $1,500 less than the top Sport Touring. It also offers a FWD version that’s about $3,000 less than the AWD-only Sport Touring.
