What’s New for the 2026 EV9?

Kia expects the long-range version of the entry-level EV9 Light to eke a single mile more from its battery pack than it did for 2025, nudging it to 305 miles (official EPA ratings for model-year 2026 are not yet available). The mid-level Wind and Land trims are anticipated to get 3 more miles on a charge, bumping them to 283, while the range-topping GT-Line should now be good for 280 miles, an increase of 10 miles from the 2025 model.

Like other Kia vehicles to receive the treatment, the EV9 Nightfall Edition wears black wheels and exterior trim, as well as an exclusive all-black interior. Based on the Land trim level, it also enjoys an increase in torque, from the Land’s 443 pounds-feet to the same 516 as the GT-Line.

What Are the 2026 Kia EV9’s Trim Levels?

As the flagship of Kia’s EV lineup, the EV9 comes well equipped even in its base trim. The Light rides on 19-inch wheels and features LED exterior lighting, a power liftgate, keyless entry and start, and Digital Key 2.0, which allows owners to use a paired smartphone as the vehicle key. Inside are synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a manually tilt/telescoping steering column and three-zone automatic climate control. Cabin tech includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate-control touchscreen, wireless phone charging, eight speakers and a 12.3-inch central display with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition to its larger battery, the Light Long Range also gets a moonroof.

The 2026 EV9’s list of standard safety technologies is likewise comprehensive. It includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear cross-traffic alert, oncoming vehicle detection, blind spot intervention, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. Kia’s Highway Driving Assist 2 combines the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering systems for hands-on semi-autonomous highway driving.

The Wind not only features standard all-wheel drive, but it also adds dual moonroofs, a power-adjustable steering column, a heated steering wheel and a heat pump, which regulates cabin temperature more efficiently than traditional climate-control equipment. The EV9 Wind also adds a 360-degree camera system, blind spot cameras, side parking sensors and automatic braking for the rear sensors.

The Land trim level gets 20-inch wheels, a self-leveling rear air suspension and upgraded LED headlights with signature lighting that shows through the front bodywork. Inside are an upgraded driver’s seat with adjustable thigh support, heated and ventilated second-row seats, rear window shades, a rearview mirror camera, ambient lighting and a 14-speaker Meridian audio system.

Unique front and rear bumpers and 21-inch wheels give the GT-Line a distinct look from the outside, while the cabin features exclusive trim, metal pedals, a massaging driver’s seat and adjustable thigh support for the front passenger. Automated parking is optional on the Land and standard on the GT-Line, which also features a head-up display.

Seven-occupant seating is standard in the Light Standard Range and Wind and available for no extra charge in the Land-based Nightfall Edition. Second-row captain’s chairs and seating for six are the standard configuration in the Light Long Range, Land and GT-Line.

What Are the 2026 Kia EV9’s Powertrain Specs and Range?

The entry-level Light trim is the only EV9 with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive; it generates 215 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. The Light Standard Range has a 76.1-kilowatt-hour battery that’s good for a claimed 230 miles. For $3,000, buyers can upgrade to the Light Long Range, which packs the same 99.8-kWh battery as the rest of the EV9 line, as well as a slightly downrated motor (201 hp), allowing it to reach its 305-mile range.

The rest of the EV9 trim levels feature dual motors, one powering each axle, for AWD. In the Wind and Land, the motors make a combined 379 hp and 443 pounds-feet, although an available over-the-air Boost upgrade increases torque output to 516 pounds-feet. Kia says both trims can go 283 miles on a charge. The higher-torque programming is standard in the GT-Line, which also makes 379 hp; it has a 280-mile range. Capable of DC fast charging at up to 235 kilowatts, the EV9 Light can replenish its pack in as little as 20 minutes, while the bigger-battery SUVs need 24 minutes.
